James didn't push the issue of staying at her Dad's house over the summer. It really was very kind of her to offer, but he'd only just met her, and despite what she said, James really didn't think Mr Murphy Would be happy for a stranger to randomly turn up on his doorstep and stay at his house. Although, it was still early in the school year and by the end of the year, James hoped to know Cassandra a lot better. Then it would be more acceptable for him to visit her over the summer holiday.
James hated the magical restriction placed on witches and wizards under seventeen. He had grown up as a muggle so was perfectly capable of living in the muggle world, however, knowing you technically could do magic to make a job go faster but not being legally allowed to do it was incredibly frustrating. It made all the box stacking and stock moving he usually ended up doing over his summers, all the more infuriating when he knew several simple spells which would have made the whole ordeal faster and easier. It would also make travelling between jobs and sofas far easier - floo powder definitely had its downsides. Most of them involved extreme nausea mixed with inhaling ash. Once again, though, he did not offer Cassandra an answer, only a smile.
What he didwant to talk about she left until last. He watched her blush and a warm feeling spread through his chest. James flirted with a lot of girls, but it wasn't often he was genuinely interested in his prospects with them. He found himself unwillingly invested in what Cassandra thought of him. Whether she was harbouring the same curiosities about the two of them together. The lack of a surprised expression, coupled with a blush, implied that the thought had at least crossed her mind. Maybe only subconsciously, but that was good enough for him. The seed had been planted.
Rivers laughed lightly at her question. It was fairly placed and not without reason. Even for a Gryffindor and Slytherin to sit at the same table and ignore each other in lessons was unheard of. For them to be sat together, animatedly chatting in a cafe outside of school was as near to blaspheme as Hogwarts held. James calmly replaced his teacup in its saucer, once it had chinked back into place, he looked back up at her, still smiling slightly but his eyes purveyed that he was deadly serious. "Cassandra, as a muggle-born, I can hardly judge people on the house they ended up in. I am judged frequently because of my blood, so for me to judge other on, what is in the end, pure chance would be very hypocritical. I know the hat says stuff about cunning and bravery and all that rubbish, but I'll bet you know a couple of people so smart, you honestly think they should be in Ravenclaw! I know I do!"

His thoughts flicked briefly to Kadie and his smiled broadened a little, "So I would happily talk to you in any corridor, as I would any Slytherin. However, I can't imagine that many of your Slytherin friends would be happy to see you talking to me after what you've said about what they think of blood status." He gave a pause, sat back in his chair with a resounding sigh and looked at her with mock despair in his eyes, "So, we'll just have to have a secret relationship! Meet in deserted classrooms or in hidey holes in the grounds. A whirlwind forbidden Romance. How very Jane Austen of us!" James laughed and leaned forward again, with the smile on his face, he concluded, "I am serious though. Our houses wouldn't stop me going after someone as beautiful and clever and kind as you. But I think your house might." [/div] you think you're cooler than me TAGS: Cassandra , WORDS: 6-4-7 , LYRICS: Cooler than me - Mike Posner template made by hay shay ! @ caution 2.0

Notes: Sorry! She figured that if they stopped talking at some point then the invitation was off the table. But her dad was always telling her to make more friends and bring them over. They had a decent house in a wizarding community and he secretly missed having three kids running around and screaming at each other. Cassandra missed that alot as well. It allowed her to be apart of the group but not the center of attention. Her sister used to always be the center of attention.
Last summer she worked without magic, and the same the summer before that and before that. Its what she did ever summer since she started school, but her dad just would ask her to watch the store and sell things. That jobs did not really require magic. Thier shop required little magic since it was just selling the raw materials to make the different potions. Next summer she would be able to work with magic and she planned to work on potions. So far she had a few ideas for things but she needed her fathers supplies to work on it. However next summer she would also start to have to look for a job for after she graduated Hogwarts.
The future was just scary for her. Where would she work and what would she do? Who would she marry and how many kids would she have? If she had to at least image her work it would be with potions. Well she did have ideas on ways to mix some potions to help with health. But every person who did potions turned to healing and she did not want to be a nurse at St. Mungos. That was a scary place.
Then James began to talk about how odd it would be for people of such opposite houses to begin dating. The Slytherin house was know for some very odd things and she always thought of herself as a Ravenclaw... but behold the hat said Slytherin. She heard the table cheer and she sat down with the other first years at the Slytherin table. That was a wierd night. "Secret relationship always end in tragedy... how can you make sure that this would not... assuming we actaully decided to date." She commented and smirked. They really had never decided to date so why even talk about how they would have a secret relationship.

The more he thought about it and the more he turned away Cassandra's kind offers, the more James realised that he would actually love to work in a potion supplies store or spend time with Mr. Murphy. The man must be a potions master! While James loved to do magic, the only subject he really excelled in was potions. Rivers loved the excitement and the concentration needed. When his career as a Beater was over or if it never got going, James planned to become a potion maker. Selling the potions, such as the Wolfsbane potion, which were too complex for most witches or wizards. Or potions such as Felix Felicis, which would sell at extraordinarily high prices.
James was not worried about his future, he had spent long enough looking after himself now that such prospects did not concern him. He had two great talents, Quidditch and potions, both of which, he believed, he could make a successful career from. Perhaps if he did stay at the Murphy house over the summer and ended up going into potions, then he could repay Mr. Murphy by buying only from his shop. Either way, James didn't think too deeply about what lay just less than three years ahead. He would cross that bridge when he came to it, and he would cross it without an ounce of self-doubt.
James listened carefully to her reply and noted the slightly self-assured slime which crept onto her face afterwards. He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows slightly; this girl moved fast. James thought that their dating may have flickered across her mind, yet here she was bringing it up in conversation. Clearly he was better at flirting than even he realised. The point remained though that it was near impossible for a Gryffindor and a Slytherin to date. But then impossible had never really been something James worried about too much.
He heaved a sigh and entwined his fingers, forearms rested on the table, "Cassandra, I'm not sure it would be possible to be in a relationship with you and keep it secret. You're just too beautiful! How could I walk past you in a corridor, knowing you were my girlfriend but having to sneer at you like all good Gryffindors and Slytherins do? Obviously all this is hypothetical, but I would guess it would be up to you how open the relationship would be because I honestly wouldn't care what people in my house say. Probably most of the guys would give me a thumbs up for getting such a pretty girl!"

He gave her another winning smile, "I guess it would depend on how much store you put in the opinions of your fellow Slytherins." James gave her a small smile and a one armed shrug, as if to say his cards were on the table, and the ball was in her court. Once her restriction of underaged magic was lifted then she figured working at her fathers store would be much more fun since she would get to work on potions all she wanted. However her future did not lay in that store alone. She saw herself doing greater things in life, she just did not know what sort of thing that would be. In her spare time she went to the library and was looking thorugh the big book of careers and then seeing which NEWTS she needed to take and do well in during her sixth year. It was very scary since most careers required high grades on the NEWT classes. But lately she was trying to live in the day and even though she knew her OWLS were coming up at the end of the year she was not worried about them.
Once in a while the idea of going to a muggle college after she finished at Hogwarts crossed her mind. She could pass as a teacher and then come back to Hogwarts and teach there. She could teach potions or another class. For a moment she remembered how her sister always wanted to be a teacher for younger children and she wondered if that was still her sisters dream. Teaching did not scream out to her the idea of attending a muggle college did offer some sort of appeal to her. After all she did grow up as a muggle until she was eleven years old. But then she would have to be descrete about her magic or just never use it.
To be completely honest Cassandra enjoyed being flirted with because it made her feel good about herself. if some boys wanted to hit on her then that was alright with her. She would smile and respond. So the idea of dating him did cross her mind but she kept hearing that he was involved with someone from his own house... or at least trying to be. She finished off the cup of tea and listened to him.
She knew that Diana was interested in a Gryffindor boy, Anko, so she figured that she would not care if Cassandra was seen in the hall with a Gryffindor boy. Her other friends would probably be on the fence but she had no plans to just kiss him in the hallways. It was too public for her. So her responce to his question was to shurg. "They probably would not mind since half of them think I should have been placed in a different house. Most people in my house pay me no attention." She explained. "So tell me what are you thinking?"
