GENERAL INFORMATION
FULL NAME: Desdemona Deirdre Neilson (Formerly Luci Alana Carroway, née O'Connell)
NICKNAME(S): Des, DD, Mum, Grandmum, Luci (only used by her family and those that knew her from before her husband died circa 2001)
DATE OF BIRTH: January 9, 1976
AGE: 35
POSITION: Advanced Magical Combat, Herbology, Arithmancy
LINEAGE: half-blood
WAND: Birch, thestral hair, 10 inches
[/ul]
APPEARANCE
HAIR: dark brown
EYES: brown
HEIGHT: 5' 7"
WEIGHT: 132
DETAILED:
Des is not glamorous by any standards. She often goes without makeup and has her hair pulled back out of her eyes rather than elaborately styled. Whenever possible she chooses practicality and comfort over style. She wears clothing that is loose and easy to move in, with the one exception of high heels. She is a slave to those thin spiked heels, though has been known to kick them off and run barefoot if the need arises. When she was younger she developed a habit of walking on the balls of her feet that allows her to walk silently, even in the high heels she is so fond of.
Physically, Des tends to have a slender and athletic figure. She is what most people consider to be fine boned. Her pale skin is covered in various scars, though the most notable being the long, white scars on the inside of both of her wrists from when she attempted suicide at the age of 12. While she does often times move with control, from the way she is able to walk silently to the way her hand instinctively reaches for her wand when she senses danger, Des is actually quite clumsy. She's been known to trip over herself on more than a few occasions.
As an animagus she is able to turn herself into a skunk. She is thin as far as skunks go, though her overall body shape is rather short and compact. She has black eyes and fur. She is about 2 feet long from the tip of her pointed nose to the very end of her tail. There are two white stripes running up over her head, down her back and down the length of her tail. The fur on her legs seems a bit roughed up due to the scars she has since fur does not grow on scars.

DETAILED:
Des is a very emotionally strong woman. She turned out that way mostly due to everything she's been through. She had a hard childhood that forced her to grow up very quickly and because of that she has become determined to deal with whatever comes her way. She is very much the sort of person that believes that you learn from everything, no matter how hard or trying the experience may be. Her stubbornness also refuses to let herself quit when things get a little difficult. If she had she certainly would not have made it to where she was now.
She is very independent, which is a bit of a blessing and a curse. She doesn't depend on anyone which is good because she doesn't lack the fear of trying something simply because she didn't have anyone to be there with her or help her through it. However, at the same time because she is so used to being on her own she often has trouble reaching out to others. She doesn't trust easily so it is hard for others to get to know her and she also has trouble asking for help when she actually does need it.
Des is a very kind and caring individual. While she may not trust someone upon first meeting, she still is the sort of person to wish the best for that person. Well, at least she does so long as that person doesn't flare her temper. Unfortunately, she also has a temper that comes out entirely too often. She has been known to curse someone for saying hello entirely too cheerfully right after she's just broken a heel on one of her shoes or something of the sort. Her foster daughter always said that her temper was the reason that she had to become an auror. Cursing the bad guys gave her a constructive outlet for her temper.

DETAILED:
Des was born in Reading, England as Luci Alana O'Connell. Her Mum left not long after she was born and left her to survive with her Dad. Luci had a wondeful childhood. Her Dad took her on plenty of adventures throughout the country and always told her the most wonderful stories about magic and wizards and even a magical school called Hogwarts. Then one day when she was eleven a letter arrived for her. She was completely flabbergasted and so excited to find out that she was accepted at Hogwarts as a student!
She was immediately sorted into Ravenclaw and found herself at home among her fellow bookworms. The year flew by and she soaked up as much knowledge of magic as she possibly could before she returned home to her Dad. She was happier than she ever remembered being, but it wouldn't last. Just past midsummer she and her Dad had a fight. She stormed off to her bedroom and left a candle burning in the living room. She fell asleep while reading and was shaken awake by her father to find that the house was on fire. Her Dad got her out and then went back in for their cat, Sparky, but neither came out. Luci ran to the neighbors to get help, but by the time help came, her Dad was gone.
Her mother couldn't be located so Luci went to live with her only other living relatives, her Aunt Lenora, her Uncle Christopher and their 3 year old daughter, Krystal. Her Dad's sister, Lenora was a muggle and the whole idea of magic never sat well with her. While Lenora and her husband welcomed Luci into their home, they couldn't hide their fear of magic from the young girl. Luci lost father and then to feel rejected by the only family she had left did not help her through her grieving. About a month after she'd gone to live with her aunt and uncle, she waited until after they'd gone to bed to sneak down into the kitchen. She found a sharp knife and slit her wrists. Her aunt's German Sheppard, Rocky, started barking at her and Luci's uncle came down to yell at the dog, only instead he found Luci on the kitchen floor covered in blood.
After that, everything changed. The already strained relationship between Luci and her aunt and uncle became even more strained. Plus there was nothing like a psychotic episode to kill your social standing at Hogwarts. Not that she was ever that popular or anything, but after that there were very few students that would actually talk to her anymore. That was how she met Ethan Carroway. He sat down next to her when she was crying out by the lake and handed her a tissue. The happy-go-lucky Gryffindor quickly went from her only friend to her best friend as things slowly began to get better. Ethan's mum, Lois, took Luci under her wing and treated the girl as if she was her own.
If it wouldn't have been for Ethan and his mother, Luci might not have made it through the next few years. She continued her studies at Hogwarts and particularly favored Defense Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration and Potions. Luci even created a potion's club, though she was the only member, except for when her friends joined to review for exams. Eventually, her friendship with Ethan turned into a romance and the two married right after finishing their studies at Hogwarts. Luci began her training as an animagus and an auror while Ethan started a career at the Ministry of Magic, in the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
As Luci finished her animagus training, a muggle car crash killed her aunt and uncle, leaving Luci as the legal guardian for their 9 year old daughter. Luci couldn't have asked for a better husband than Ethan who graciously accepted the situation and promised to continue raising Krystal as if she were their child. Less than two years later, Luci and Ethan were blessed with a son of their own, Dresden. Luci nearly dropped out of auror training so that she would have time to take care of the children, but Ethan refused to let her. He knew that she wanted to become an auror to help keep the world peaceful so that fewer kids would have to grow up without their parents. Lois and Ethan's brother, Ainsley both helped out as much as they could, even though Ainsley was married and had a baby of his own.
Luci completed her auror training not long after that and became a full-fledged auror. At first things went well. She had a few successful missions and her boss began giving more important missions, until one day when she was lucky to escape with her life. Her mission was simple, to stop a wizard that was murdering muggles by any means necessary. She failed. She didn't stop him, only pissed him off. The murderer sent one of his underlings to kill her and her family. Ethan died protecting Krystal and Dresden until Luci was able to disarm the intruder. After turning the intruder over to Magical Law Enforcement, Luci did what she had to in order to keep her family safe, she faked their deaths.
For all intents and purposes Luci Alana Carroway was dead. Luci changed her name and she and her kids moved to a new town to make a new life. She was now Desdemona Deirdre Neilson and she was more determined than ever to see that she stopped as many bad guys as she possibly could. As a precaution she changed her son's last name to Carey. Her daughter was not a Carroway by birth and she hoped that was good enough to keep anyone from coming after her. It seemed to work. Des was able to watch both of her kids grow up. Dresden was accepted to Hogwarts while his muggle foster sister got married and gave Des grandkids.
The peace was shattered nearly 10 years after her husband's death. An assassin showed up at her door to finish the job that another had been sent for 10 years earlier. Des knew that her days as an auror were over. She'd faked her own death and did the best she could to cover her tracks, but they still found her. Even if she killed this one and the next, she knew that more would keep coming until she was dead. There was only one place she knew she'd be safe and that was Hogwarts. She formalized her retirement as an auror and decided to try her hand at educating the next generation.

RP SAMPLE: From an X-Men RP:
Celeste was bored. She hated being bored. She saw no point in doing her homework, at least not willingly until the professors started threatening her with detentions or expulsion unless she completed it. Homework was such a complete waste of time. When was she ever going to use Shakespeare in the real world, or math or half the stuff they learned for that matter? It was disgusting, but she supposed it was a necessary evil that she would need to deal with at some point. After all, it wasn't like she really had anywhere else to go, much to her dismay.
She was also on her own as she wandered the halls. Her pet snake, Fang, had gone out hunting earlier that morning and wasn't back yet even though it was now afternoon. Though it wasn't unusual for Fang to be gone for a day or two. Usually after eating he went into a deep sleep as his body began digesting his dinner. She wasn't worried about him, but she did miss his presence. If there was one thing she hated more than being bored it was being lonely. Without Fang around she was starting to feel lonely. She needed something to occupy her time and now.
She glanced down one hallway. It led to the library. There was no reason to even consider such a place. She only went there when she needed a book to complete her homework. Plus it was hardly a place for socializing and besides the fact that it was always quiet was a little creepy. Next she came to the Training Room and the gymnasium and then kept walking. She hated fighting or at least physically. And if she was going to get all hot and sweaty then she'd better be having sex. It's not like her power could be used in combat anyway. She also avoided the classrooms like the plague. Again, why go there when she didn't have to? It just wouldn't be right.
Soon she found herself walking out into the courtyard. It was picturesque, but still as boring as the rest of the school. So far she had yet to find anything at this school that she actually enjoyed. She refused to go into town unless she had to. Being around humans still made her nervous. Though could anyone really blame her for that, especially with everything she'd been through? Walking over to one of the picnic tables she climbed up on the table and laid down. Her knees were bent, but her back and feet were flat against the tabletop. Closing her eyes she just soaked up the warmth of the sun for a bit until she heard a voice speaking to her.
