Carolyn and her sister are identical twins, but they look nothing alike. They bare physical similarities, but people can easily tell them apart without having to question themselves. The first obvious difference is their hair. Carolyn’s hair is short and silver. Her hair is one defining characteristic that sets her apart from her sister, and it has increasingly become a trademark of her appearance. She usually wears her hair in the same style each day—combed back and to the left, but not in a boyish manner. The ends are usually wavy. Her hair is shiny and catches the light (and people’s eyes), but that is only because of its color. Her hair is healthy and soft because she takes good care of it.
Both sisters have dark blue eyes, but their eyes look nothing alike. Elizabeth’s eyes are bright and full of life, whereas Carolyn’s eyes are seemingly endless black holes. She does not like talking to people, so she lets her eyes do the talking for her. All it takes is one stare (or glare), and people feel the need to do as she says. She uses her eyes to intimidate and manipulate (in other words, scare) people into doing what she wants. It is an art she mastered a long time ago, and that is evident in the way she plays people by looking them up and down. She also wears reading glasses, which help in the intimidating of those who are inferior to her. All she has to do is glare coldly over the frames, and people know she means business. Most people are too scared to look her straight in the eye, but they know that looking her in the eyes is one of the very few ways they can gain her trust and respect.
Carolyn has average sized lips; they are not too large or too small for her face. Her lips are usually pursed together in disgust with everything and everyone around her, so there is no hiding how she feels. She automatically assumes that all people are idiots and that everything in the world is corrupted. When she is angry or displeased with someone or something, she purses her lips even tighter.
When Carolyn speaks, her voice is cool and collected. She usually speaks in a low tone of voice—but only to catch people’s attention. She has learned that speaking loudly causes people to raise their voices because they want to match the loudest voice in the room. So she speaks quietly. She refuses to raise her voice and will not talk over people, so her employees have learned not to speak until they are spoken to. Other than to “put on a face” for other world powers, Carolyn rarely smiles. As previously mentioned, she keeps her lips pursed. Despite that, her cheekbones are obvious. Carolyn has high cheekbones that are visible even in the absence of a smile, but her cheekbones do not give off a bright, happy appearance. Actually, they age her face, and she hates it. Anything that adds years (even months) to her appearance, she hates it by default.
Unlike her sister, Carolyn hides her wrinkles. She knows how old she is and does not need to be reminded of it daily. She uses Muggle cosmetics and sometimes even magic to keep the age lines off her face. The public does not know her true age, for she has never told them. Everyone just assume she is in her fifties and leaves it at that.
Her physique suggests that she is in her forties, but everyone knows that she is older than that. She stands at an average five-foot-six and weights approximately 127 pounds. She tries to stay in shape by eating healthily and exercising occasionally. Nobody knows that she exercises except for her daughter and ex-husband. She never exercises where the public can see her—only in the comfort of her own home. She is slender, but not curvy. She has small, seemingly shapeless breasts. Not even a push-up bra can help create the illusion that her breasts are “large and perky.” She has a twenty-seven-waist and thirty-six-inch hips, but she does not have an hourglass figure. Even her backside is flat, making most skirts and pants look awkward on the lower half of her body.
Speaking of clothing, Carolyn often dresses in Muggle attire. This seems irrelevant for someone who is tied up in pureblood supremacy, but Carolyn feels that she commands attention better in professional Muggle attire. It is for this reason that she usually wears pencil skirts and, on occasion, pantsuits with nice blouses. She hates witches’ robes and refuses to wear them, even during meetings held by the Wizengamot. She wears heeled shoes daily, feeling that the added height helps people take her more seriously. With heeled shoes, she stands at about 5’9” inches. She also wears heels because the soles of the shoes click loudly against the floor and draw attention to her. She purposely walks with heavy footsteps to attract people’s attention. When she is not out in public or at the Ministry, she is at home wearing more or less the same thing she does at work, just without the stilettos (she does not want to scratch her hardwood floors).[/ul]

Carolyn is the type of person that everyone wants to hate but has to love. She has the type of personality that sends people running in the opposite direction, but those same people are drawn to her because they admire her audacity. No one will ever admit their admiration for the Mistress of Magic, but Carolyn is not stupid. She knows that people admire her, and she thinks that people want to be her. In her mind, she has the perfect life and can do no wrong, and she assumes that everyone wants to lead the same life that she does. She compares herself to everyone around her, and she always puts herself on a pedestal as if she were the Queen of England.
No matter how much she denies it, Carolyn is self-centered. She focuses primarily on herself and very rarely gives people the time of day. She considers herself superior to those around her, and she makes that fact known without saying a word. She rarely speaks. When she does speak, her words are usually condescending and rude. She feels that being the Mistress of Magic gives her the right to do whatever she wants, so she does exactly that. She lets things flow out of her mouth freely. She is does not think before she speaks. She does not hold back on her opinions and is brutally honest, which is one of the reasons why people hold such hatred towards her. It does not take much for people to realize that the Mistress does not care what they have to say, and that she will not listen even if they start talking. When it comes to speaking to large groups, she speaks with confidence and certainty. She shows no fear. She carries herself in such a way that makes it obvious she is a strong, natural speaker, so people have learned to take her seriously and to listen to what she has to say. They might not like her, but they know that they can trust her to make the right decisions when the time comes. That is one of the only reasons she has remained the Mistress of Magic for so long.
What Carolyn cannot do, however, is argue. When I say argue, I am referring to simple arguments and not those related to work or other official business—I am referring to arguments she has with people daily. She can put up a fight and talk until she is blue in the face, but finding valid information to prove her point is not one of her strengths. Much of what she says is unnecessary fluff. She is witty, but most people realize that what she says is not important or even relevant to the argument. The only reason she wins so many arguments is because she uses her position of power to intimidate and scare people—and it works. Before she became Mistress of Magic, she used her incriminating and intimidating glares to force people to back down in fear of her.
The Mistress’ unpleasant personality is derived mostly from unresolved feelings she has towards her twin sister. When they began attending Hogwarts at the age of eleven, Carolyn and her sister grew apart. They began to shape into the women they are today. Elizabeth was a bubbly Hufflepuff and made friends easily, but Carolyn was a know-it-all Ravenclaw with a bad attitude. The two had their strengths and weaknesses, but it seemed that Carolyn wanted everything. She wanted to be the brains and the beauty, but it never worked out that way. Elizabeth’s popularity cut into Carolyn’s core, and she became increasingly angry with her sister. Her anger has lasted for well over fifty years, and it will continue to live for as long as Carolyn lives. Now, she takes her anger and jealousy out on anyone and everyone who crosses her path, and she refuses to talk to her sister. (And Carolyn is supposed to be the mature one…)
Carolyn is a very personal person. Not personable, but personal. She does not like to share her personal life with the public, and people have come to know and respect that. When she first became Mistress, The Daily Prophet wanted to know every detail about her personal life, but she set them straight during the first few interviews. They learned quickly not to ask questions about her, her ex-husband or her daughter. At the start of a personal question, Carolyn ends interviews. She does not like talking about her personal life because it is just that: personal. She will talk about anything related to her public life, such as happenings inside the Ministry of Magic and other community-related things, but she does have limits for such conversations. Carolyn is all about setting limits, and people have learned that about her.
