doin it up, gettin er done, and having some fun Gian walked into the class and headed over to his desk at the front of the room. This was his first class of higher yeared students this term (years 5-7). Although he would break down the course into smaller parts to divide up the students based on their year, he would be doing a couple of classes this way to begin to see what level everyone was at and how much they actually remembered over the summer. He didn't have high expectations but he would expect them to remember most of the spells that they learned in past years or at least a couple. You don't lose everything you learn over the summer or at least he hoped not. Giancarlo saw himself as a teacher that would drill these students' heads with the spell until they remembered it forever so today would be a good test. He put his stuff down on his desk and started unloading his lesson plans and textbooks. Today they would be doing a spell that he had taught in fourth year and see how much they remembered. If he thought that they were ready, he would take them into the next level of transfiguration. If not, he would keep them at the same level until they "remembered" it again. After unloading he traveled to the sides of the classroom where the creatures for their first class were. Guinea fowl. Each were in their own cage and he had enough for each student to have one. He put one squaking guinea fowl on each desk so that when the students walked in and sat down, they wouldn't have to waste time getting one themselves. Those who paid attention in past years would know exactly what this spell was. After he put one fowl on each desk he went back to his own desk and laid back on his chair, waiting for his students to walk in. He did not accept tardy excuses and he would hope (for the sake of the students) that they did not come in tardy. If they did, well, they knew the drill by now. He leaned back further in his chair and waited for the students to arrive. OOC: You have 48 hours from now to post in the thread. If everyone posts before the time is up then I will post again and we will start! If you post after the 48 hours you are late. For now just RP coming in and sitting down and then the lesson will begin either after the 48 hours has passed or once everyone has posted coming in. He was the first and only one there so far. Was he really that early? Couldn't be, class would begin fairly soon. Ah well, it's better than being late. He said good morning to the professor and then looked for a seat. He had seen this professor teach his classes before and he was a fan of him. He wasn't too strict but could be when needed and he wasn't too easy which was good for a challenge. The class itself was not a walk in the park either. Transfiguration, however, was such an awesome class. You got to learn conjurations and learn how to turn something into something else and a whole bunch of other stuff. It was really neat and was definitely one of his favourite classes (even though it was also one of his hardest).
He looked on the tables and saw a guinea fowl. He was a bit confused but sat down at a table in the mid-left section of the class. Guinea fowls? Wasn't this last years material? He could've sworn they did this before but it was the first class so a review session may be the reason why it was being done again. He hated that lesson to be honest as it was one of the harder ones of fourth year. It was so tough to turn a guinea fowl into a guinea pig and he wasn't sure why. He had done it a couple times before but a whole summer had gone by, so doing it again may be a problem. Well you never know, maybe he was totally off with what they had to do. Maybe it was a new spell. He hoped it was anyway.
He unpacked his textbook and unpacked his materials and waited for someone else to come in. Hopefully to relieve the awkward silence that was lingering in the room right now. The only thing Brandon was thinking of was that if it wasn't for the squawking of the birds, it would've been worse.

He was a close friend of hers. They were competitors on the quidditch field, but friends nonetheless. She took her customary seat in the middle of the room, and got out her things to be prepared for the lesson. She was a bit early, of course. She hadn't tried to be, but it was just the way it had worked out.
She was just really excited for this class. Transfiguration was one of her favorite subjects, it always had been. So she was excited what she would be able to learn this year. She knew it wouldn't be easy, and she could already feel the pressure of the examinations. But she still had almost a full year to learn whatever she could to prepare herself for those examinations and she planned to make the most of that.
The first lessons had always excited Kadie. She loved the feeling of a new year. A new start. And after a hellish summer she needed a new start. She didn't want this year to be about what guy she was dating at the moment. She wanted it to simply be about school and getting top grades. That was her goal. No boys or anything like that to distract her.
She did notice the guinea fowl and a smile came to her face. Yes, she could already tell that this was going to be a fun class. She would make the most of it, so that when the end of the year came, it would be a top grade for her and she could return next year and be able to say to herself that she had gotten an O in here. And transfiguration wasn't an easy class. She knew that she'd have to pay attention and work hard to get what she wanted out of the class.

Arianne and Transfiguration did not get along that well. Well, they hadnt really gotten well since way back in 1st year, when Arianne had been the last person in the class to be able to turn the feather into the needle. That was, by her standards, pretty pathetic. Arianne was not the type of person who was the last to get anything. So she'd worked extra hard for Transfiguration, till she could nail things - putting all the effort outside the classroom so that she wouldn't have to continue putting in the effort inside the classroom. It was just more stress than normal, but it removed her fear of failure, and though she entered the Transfiguration class with a familiar nervousness, it was not quite as bad as it usually was. In fact, though she had to nail it for the OWLS, Arianne had put aside so much time in transfiguration in her schedule that she knew she'd be able to do it - even at the cost of some sleep. She had at least enough time to maintain her E average - though Arianne still couldnt bear to go without the perfect O.
She entered the class with a smile and a "Good morning," to her teacher. Arianne was nothing if not polite. She also extended a smile to the few people she recognized from her class - Brandon, the guy she'd met unexpectedly at the Leaky Cauldron, and Kadie, who she'd been studying with since a long time and who she really liked, as well as respected. She sat down on one of the front row benches - which was her preferred place - glad that she was at least somewhat early, even though she'd been running late all day. She set up her wand and her quill in the perfect way that she liked it to be, and had just removed her book when the Professor placed a large cage on the desk. Her smile tightened and she replaced the book into the sturdy bag she carried around, and then she aligned the cage so it was in the exact center of the table.
Arianne disliked fowls. They were dirty, ugly, and probably meant that they had to do a spell. She recognized them from last year's extremely difficult spell. She hoped that she would be able to at least attempt the spell they had to do with the fowl this year - she'd attempted and practiced quite a few spells from the book, but none had actually involved the guinea fowl. She opened the book on her lap and started looking through it, till she found an insanely difficult spell to make every feather of a bird a different color, and sighed. Things did not look as well planned as they had before. If this was her first class, how were the rest going to be. She resisted the urge to start re-scheduling on her planner. That would have to wait till the class ended.

Post by Kenny Micheal Templeson on May 23, 2011 8:33:59 GMT -5
Kenny was making his way out of the common room and down to hall as the young student was on his way to a class that he was really fond of since coming to Hogwarts. He was on his way to Transfiguration class which seemed to be one of his favorite classes of the academy. He always enjoyed the subject which always seem to captivate him as the class would involved transforming one object into another random object. The day was quite early as usual as he enjoyed getting up right on time before any class starts right on the first day so that way he can go ahead and say hello to the students and the professor without acting all worried at all. On his way to class Kenny kept a mental note to remember about his assignments in his other classes as well as remembering to sign up for the Quidditch team as he made his way up the stairs to the fifth floor to the classroom.
As he opened the door to the classroom he noticed as usual that the class was a bit small for the time being as he saw a couple of students for now as he kept a small smile and figured that maybe these students seem nice to at least speak to. He then noticed the new professor for this class and wondered if he was going to be strict or maybe be nice this year as Kenny waved at him and said good morning. He then saw the two students that were here and waved at them both, but he was still too shy to at least say hello even though he wanted to speak to them, he found a good place to sit down at the first row of desks so that he can manage to listen, and pay attention to what the professor will talk about in class.
When Kenny got his textbook and materials for this class out after putting his school bag away he noticed that there was a cage on his desk which made him wonder what was in it. He took a real good look and noticed that in the cage was a guinea fowl which made a squawking noise that was a bit loud to Kenny’s ears though not too loud enough. As he looked at the creature in the cage he had a feeling that he was in for an interesting year of Transfiguration as he waited patiently for the class to begin.

Riley hated being late. She was an early kind of person. Got up early, went to bed early, got to class early... she just liked to be early. Except when she was at her Foster House. Then she liked to go to bed early, get up late, waste time during the day, and hope no one noticed her. It was probably the opposite at school, but she loved school, while she hated her 'home.' Like that could ever be called home. It was awful. Even for the two weeks Hannah was there with her, it was awful. Everyone was so mean to her, just because she was a little different. It wasn't fair. Life wasn't fair. Pushing away the awful thought, Riley danced into class.
She didn't seem to be early, or late, which must be better then being late, she thought. None of the teachers liked people late. Not at all. Smiling brightly at Arianne, who she knew a little, she waved towards her professor, "Good morning, Professor." She said happily, grinning, wide eyes even wider then normal, before taking a seat, and pushing her hair behind hair, clipping it up with her signature butterfly hair clip.
Transfiguration was hard. Charms, now that was a class that was both fun and easy. Transfiguration... not exactly fun, and certainly not easy, but one of her favorite nonetheless. Setting out everything she needed, and putting away everything she didn't, she finally looked up to look at the others in the room. Surprisingly, Riley was a very neat person. Everything had order, had a place. She craves this order in her life, but since that wasn't possible, she embraced her quirky, spur of the moment side, instead. It seemed to keep her bad off all the bad subjects, most of the time.

oh i could hide ‘neath the wings OF THE BLUEBIRD AS SHE SINGS—the six o’clock alarm would never end Scarlett's fiery locks whipped through the air as she raced through the castle clutching her bag tightly to her chest as she rushed through a crowd of First years and down a narrow corridor...
It was the first day for Transfiguration Class and Scarlett, although not a perfect student, did not enjoy being late to class. As she made her way hurriedly up the stairs to the fifth floor Scarlett took a deep breath as she stood before the door to Transfiguration. The first day of class was always exciting and a bit nerve wracking, not knowing who may or may not be in your classes. Although, for Scarlett for the past few years at Hogwarts she hadn't exactly had a full social calender so it didn't make much of a difference who was in her class...
Stepping inside she saw that the class was filling up rather quickly but there were a few empty desks left so she wasn't the last, she hoped! In case she was the last to arrive Scarlett had no intentions of holding up the class. She quickly made her way through the rows of desks tucking her bag behind as she spotted an open seat at the far left of the room, near a boy that she may or may not have seen in one of her other classes this year...
The faces she did see as she made her way to her desk seemed familiar in a hazy sort of way. After so many terms here one tended to share classes with faces that looked all too familiar even without a name. Scarlett noticed the cages on the desks and the guinea fowl. It was such an odd looking bird but she loved that about it...
Scarlett took her seat as quietly as possible, slinging her bag over the back of her chair she quickly turned back to her desk and sat down smiling even brighter to her newest professor...
"Hello there." she softly whispered with a gleam in her eyes as she sat face to face with her caged fowl. Scarlett loved the feathers of the guinea fowl, in fact she had a dress that it's pattern reminded her so much of it. As she paid more attention to the little fowl it began to become more and more agitated and unsettled in it's entrapment...
Scarlett pulled back her crimson hair and tucked it to one side cocking her head to that same side as she ran her slender fingers down the delicate bars of the brass cage. "Poor little thing...it's alright." she softly cooed and she began to quietly hum a soft melody as if singing the fowl a lullaby like a mother to child...
It only took a few moments and the soft, soothing melody seemed to calm the creature as it sat down in it's make shift roost and looked up at Scarlett as calm as could be. As Scarlett and her fowl settled in for class to begin she turned her back to retrieve what she would need for class. Scarlett pulled her parchments and wand from her bag and turned back for her favorite quill...
Reaching into her bag, Scarlett pulled out her Peacock quill, her most favorite and most unique. Her hair fell across her face and as she pulled it back once more her eyes caught the striking brunette boy behind her. Her face wore a soft, sweet smile as her eyes sparkled against the colors of the Peacock feather and then returned her attention to her new little fowl friend. tag:: Brandon et all // words:: 588 // lyricst:: daydream believer - the monkees // credit:: STAR COLLECTOR

doin it up, gettin er done, and having some fun Giancarlo watched as one by one people walked into the class and took their seats. It was interesting to see the faces that came into the class. Those who greeted the professor with a "hello" or "good morning" were countered with a similar response. He watched as people looked at the birds on their desk each with a different expression. Some looked worried about the lesson ahead, some looked relieved, and some just wanted to play with the bird. It was a very interesting bunch of people, but this was his class and he was ready to mould them into great wizards. He stood up from his chair and with the flick of his wand he shut the door.
"Welcome to Transfiguration Class,"
he greeted his students. He walked in front of his desk, crossed his arms and leaned back onto the desk. "This term there's some very interesting spells that we're going to learn. We're also going to start learning about conjurations. If time remains, we may even go further." He looked at them with an intriguing look. It would be a good year for sure. "Now I know we have some fifth, sixth, and seventh years in this class. The fifth and seventh years will spend more time in this class more than anyone as they have to prep for their OWL's. I will train you the best I can to ace them, but to get good grades you need to want them. Trust me, they are not easy, but any way I can help you prep for them I will." He didn't like watching his students fail and he will not let it happen. Though it is a two way street and at this point, he figured that these kids understood that. He continued, "Today we're going to go over a spell you learned in fourth year. The guinea fowl to guinea pig spell. Does anyone remember what branch of transfiguration this spell is part of?" He waited to see who actually paid attention last year and who just wanted to get by in the class. "All the fifth years in here better pay attention to this review class because this type of transfiguration will be on your OWL's"He waited for someone to answer continuing to lean on his desk. OOC: If you are late and want to still partake in the class feel free to still post yourself coming in late. If you want to answer the question then raise your hand and assume that I called on you. Don't wait for me to post again haha it's a waste of a post for both of us. So raise your hand and just assume I pointed at you and said "Yes," or something like that. oh i could hide ‘neath the wings OF THE BLUEBIRD AS SHE SINGS—the six o’clock alarm would never end Scarlett's attention was fully concentrated on the guinea fowl before her. It was an odd sort of bird but she just loved that about it, but once the professor started addressing the class she glanced up with a smile for him as he gave the introduction of the class...
She listened intently until his opening address focused more on the Fifth and Seventh years. She was perfectly content to softly coo and listen and watch her little fowl friend in it's brass cage...
Scarlett did keep an ear to the front of the class, however, and as she wore a warm smile contently she listened to Professor Matleo's words and her smile grew a bit brighter. He seemed like a very dedicated professor and she appreciated and liked that about him very much. She could tell this would be a class she would enjoy...
As the professor continued he explained what Scarlett already knew. A spell from Fourth year, surely most would remember but it was a nice warm up to the beginning of term...
"Does anyone remember what branch of transfiguration this spell is part of?" Professor Matleo called out to the class. Scarlett's eyes were transfixed on her guinea fowl, she'd already named him Charlie. Charlie squawked a bit as Scarlett raised her hand gracefully into the air and then as she heard the professor call her out she answered with a pleasant smile. She wasn't always the first to want to answer a question, but her new found connection with her little fowl had her mind ready to go...
"There's about eight branches of Transfiguration but the guinea fowl to guinea pig spell falls under the Cross-Species branch specifically, Professor Matleo." she explained sweetly as she kept her eyes on Charlie the fowl until she said her last words and then looked up to her professor with a sweet smile. tag:: Trans Class // words:: 308 // lyricst:: daydream believer - the monkees // credit:: STAR COLLECTOR

doin it up, gettin er done, and having some fun Giancarlo watched as a girl raised her hand and answered his question, "There's about eight branches of Transfiguration but the guinea fowl to guinea pig spell falls under the Cross-Species branch specifically, Professor Matleo." Gian smiled at the girl and uncrossed his arms pointing quickly at her, "Now see, there's someone who remembers there stuff, ten points to Gryffindor! Very well done. Yes this is an example of cross-species transfiguration where you turn a creature from one species into that of another."
He got up from his leaning position and started to pace across the front of his class. "Everyone please take out your version of Intermediate Transfiguration and turn to page 78. This is the spell we will be performing again today and I suggest you do it perfectly before you leave today." With a swish of his wand, he turned his own copy of the book to page 78. "You all should be able to do this as it was done last year, so it shouldn't be too difficult. However, please remember to remain calm, clear your mind, and concentrate extremely hard on the task at hand. It is the only way you will succeed." He took out his own guinea fowl from his cage and watched as the guinea fowl started to walk on his desk, "Watch carefully," he said as he pointed his wand at the bird, "Numididae Verto" With the spell said, he watched as the bird quickly turned into a guinea pig. "And there you go. Please note that the spell, in case you have forgotten, is Numididae Verto, you also need two wand swishes before you say it for it to work. Please copy this down if you have forgotten, He said as he wrote it on the board 2 WAND SWISHES NUMIDIDAE VERTO"Now before you leave today you will have to change it back into a fowl. So please watch again," he went to the guinea pig and pointed his wand at it, "Verto Numididae" he said after his two wand swishes and he watched as the rodent became a bird once more. He put the bird back into his cage and petted it slightly and wrote the incantation on the board, 2 WAND SWISHES VERTO NUMIDIDAE"Once you have the bird back into its cage you will be done for the day. I will be patrolling around watching your performance and will be giving you a grade based on participation. You will also have a bit of homework for today which I will tell you about a little later on." He walked back to the front and leaned against his desk. "This is an important spell so please make sure you know it well. Once you have done this spell three times (in perfect outcome...as in you've changed it to and from the two creatures three times), you may put the cage with the fowl inside back on the corner of your desk and wait for me to dismiss you." "Remember, Transfiguration is about three things. Wand Movement, Incantation, and Concentration. Without these three things you may get something called Splinching. Splinching is when you do not fully complete the transfiguration. In this example, your fowl may get smaller and grow big ears and a tail, but still have features and a beak. If something like this happens, stay calm and use the "Verto Numididae" and it will reset hopefully. If not I may have to come do it myself. Remember that these animals will feel the pain just as humans would when apparating so don't feel bad if you hear the squawks or squeals of the creatures though I know it's hard to get past sometimes. Prepare yourself for splinching because it is more likely than not that you will experience it." He waved his wand and with that all the guinea fowl cages opened up on the students' desks. "If you have any questions let me know. You have one hour, you may begin." And with that he started to observe the students' actions. OOC: Ok so you can now RP yourselves trying to complete this. Please make sure you have completed the actual spell three times. As in you have changed them to and from each other three times. How perfect or terrible you think you can do it is totally up to you but try to not be perfect in every single class. You have to RP once with your performance and it will be given a grade and posted in the gradebook later on once class is over. If you think you have done it and you are comfortable with it, RP your character sitting back down and waiting for the dismissal. Enjoy! Post by Maxwell Arnold Waller on May 24, 2011 23:26:23 GMT -5
It's not that Maxwell didn't enjoy class, in fact, he loved being at Hogwarts and was well known for grasping most basic magical subjects, but one always evaded him, and it just so happened that the class he was the least talented at was also the one he managed to be late for on the first day.
Max ran through the halls, making his way down from the dormitory to the fifth floor in a record 10 minutes, something even ghosts at the school would applaud, but it still wasn't enough. His school rob waved violently behind him as he booked it to the Transfiguration room. He hoped Professor Matleo would grant him a small amount of mercy upon his late arrival as he panted heavily, small beads of sweat forming on his slightly tan forehead. Maybe he should have spent less of his evening practicing for Quidditch try-outs and more time sleeping, but nothing could change the current situation.
As he made his way to the door, still panting heavily but trying to collect his breath, he heard a rather masculine and mature voice speaking through the wooden entrance to his class. He paused, and listened sternly. It was obviously the Professor, because he was giving directions on how to cast the spell for the day. Max panicked slightly, rummaging through his worn messenger bag looking for a piece of scarp parchment to write down the instructions, just barely getting both spells scrawled on it as the Professor wrapped up his conversation.
Once he had finished speaking, Max slowly pushed the door open, preparing for the stares of his classmates more than likely judging him on his late arrival, something Max would have probably done if he had been on time.
"Excuse me Professor Matleo, I'm extremely sorry for being late today. I'm still getting used to a school schedule." He said politely, as he slowly made his way to a desk near the classroom's entrance. A small bird, what he assumed to be guinea fowl that he would have to somehow transform into a guinea pig. That would be interesting.
As he took his seat, already feeling terrible for being late, and rosy cheeks signifying his embarassment of this fact, he pulled out the piece of parchment from his pocket, and his wand as well. Two swishes, and then the spell, how hard could it be? Max knew it would be extremely hard, but decided to attempt it quickly in hopes of making up for his lateness.
He took a large breath through his nose, raised his wand and stared at the bird's eyes. He swished his wand twice.
"Numididae Verto!" He exclaimed.
What followed was what the Professor mentioned as splinching. The details were not pretty in anyway. The poor bird squawked loudly as the the beak turned into a small pink nose with whiskers. The wings stayed virtually the same, only the feathers seemed to turn into hair. Other then that, the creature seemed virtually unchanged, and although it didn't look like it was in pain, it did seem rather unimpressed with it's current situation.
Max sighed heavily, very angry at the outcome of his spell, although not at all surprised. Transfiguration was, after all his worst subject at Hogwarts by far.
"Verto Numididae!" He said a little less enthusiastically, waving his wand twice yet again. The bird turned back into its former self and turned it's back to Max, obviously still not happy with his horrendous casting of the spell. "Stupid bird", Max uttered under his breath, preparing himself for another disaster.
"Numididae Verto!" He said, a little quieter, but more firmly. His wand movments seemed to be a bit more controlled, and he was less worried about the outcome, already seeing (hopefully) the worst that he could do. The guinea fowl began to shift quickly before him, and it looked like it had transformed completely into a guinea pig! That is, until Maxwell heard the clicking noise it had begun to make on his desk. He picked up the small rodent and looked at it's feet. Talons took the place of what should have been small, cute paws. Although he had sobered up quickly from his accomplishment, he was now more determined then ever to get the spell right. He put the guinea pig back on the desk.
"Verto Numididae!" He cast, as the fowl took form infront of him again. Afraid he would lose his concentration, amidst the voices around him all casting the same spells rather loudly, coupled with the squawking of birds, he quickly went back to casting, transforming the guina fowl for the last time. "Numididae Verto!"
It splinched. The poor thing looked worse than it had only a few minutes beforehand. It had partially shrunk the front half of the animal, leaving it with a beak and whiskers, an odd grey color and paws covered in feather. How anyone could learn to love a creature like this he had no idea. This was probably what a Boggart looked like. He sighed, turned the ugly being back into a fowl and stuffed it back into it's cage.
Max was done with Transfiguration for today.

Liberty felt as if her stomach was somersaulting, and it was not a very nice feeling. She felt as if she were walking on pins and needles as she approached the Transfiguration classroom, completely on edge. It was the first class of the term and she was late. How could she be late? She almost felt like crying.. almost. Well, this was probably her punishment for staying up late the night before. Though to her credit, she had been reading her transfiguration text book, as she had been extremely nervous for this class. Transfiguration and Liberty were not the best combination. Whenever she attempted it, it was like water and oil- immiscible. A part of her wished she could turn back time and have woken up on time, but unless he got access to a time turner that was not possible. She heard the Professor speaking the instructions, and took a deep breath to collect herself before she entered.
She opened the door to the classroom and entered the classroom, a bundle of nerves and it showed clearly in her appearance. She was a bit shaky and had a nervous look on her face. "Good Morning professor," she said, "I'm sorry for being late, it won't happen again," she promised, as she saw the class already in session and students around her casting spells, or rather one spell in particular. Next she saw the fowls. Now Liberty loved animals.. but why couldn't they ever work with nice, cute ones? Besides, they had done this already. She had remembered it clearly- she had only managed to get it to transfigure half-way. She also saw a boy in front of her, Maxwell, who was just going to his seat. She felt slightly relieved. At least she wasn't the only one.
She took a quick glance around the room, and headed for a seat not to the back of the room, but one that was further back from the middle and placed her bag on the seat next to her as she was afraid to put it near the fowl. She looked at the creature, taking a few moments to gather herself together. She could do this..right? Oh who was she kidding, she was so going to flunk this. She raised her wand, pointing it at the fowl in front of her. It watched her with two beady eyes, birds eyes always crept her out. With a small sigh began to do the wand movements.
Suddenly she changed her mind and lowered it. She needed to concentrate more. She did not want to splinch the poor creature. Liberty had a heart, even for animals like guinea fowls. This type of thought process continued for a few minutes, as she waited until she was sure, and convinced herself that she could do it. Nodding to herself, she raised her wand again, swishing it twice. "Numididae Verto," she said, but her voice was still a little shaky, and she watched as the creature before her shrunk and lost it's beak, got little guinea pig ears, and the feathers started turning to fur. Halfway through this though it stopped, so it was partially covered in fur and partially in feathers. Oh great.
"I'm sorry!" she whispered to the creature, which seemed to have lost it's ability to make any sound as well. She was talking to the guinea pig/fowl.. wonderful. "Verto Numididae."
It returned to normal. At that point Liberty pulled out her copy of Intermediate Transfiguration, and turning to page 78 she re-read everything on the topic, though she knew the material by heart already. Knowledge was not the problem. Theory, she could handle. Actually casting the spell? Well that was another story. She fidgeted a bit, delaying, as she was afraid to try again, but fifteen minutes later found her taking her wand up off the desk to try again. "Numididae Verto," she said, a bit clearer this time, with the same result. Really? Not even one feather less? She sighed. "Verto Numididae." She had no idea what else to try, and so did the same thing she had just done. "Numididae Verto." Again, the same bloody ting happened. She felt stuck as if she were stuck in a hole. Why wasn't she improving even just a little? She glanced up at the Professor, hoping he was not witnessing her clear failure at this subject, before looking back at the half guinea pig, half guinea fowl. This showed that she had not improved even the slightest since they had last done this, and she did not feel so grand about that fact. She swished her wand again. "Verto Numididae." Liberty was not even bothered to look around to see how the others were doing. First she had been late, and now she could not perform the spell properly. Liberty was not used to being one of the worse students in a class, and at the moment she felt like it. She sighed, and a similar routine continued for the next ten minutes. Finally, she saw progress. Most of the feathers were gone, and it had shrunk some more. She repeated it a few more times and felt immense relief when she had finally produced a little guinea pig on the desk before her. Much better than the guinea fowl. It was white, with light brown, brown and dark brown spots all over- very cute. She smiled at it almost apologetically, as if saying sorry that it took so long but at least she had finally gotten it. She managed to repeat the spell twice more. Taking it up as gently as possible she put the guinea pig back it it's cage, and sat down in her seat. Post by Kenny Micheal Templeson on May 25, 2011 0:44:44 GMT -5
As Kenny listened on to the Professor explaining to the class about today’s lesson along with looking at the caged guinea fowl that was on his desk, he realized that he was a fifth year and that as a fifth year student there is something known as the OWL which caused him to be a bit worried. He asked what branch of transfiguration the guinea fowl to guinea pig spell is from to which another student responded with a correct answer and yet. Kenny then realized that this OWL was real serious stuff and that he had to remember to study big time for this if he wants to pass it and not look like a fool.
He decided to listen on to the professor told the class to turn to page 78 on there Intermediate Transfiguration book for the spell that they were going to learn. He made sure his quill had a good amount of ink on the tip before proceeding to write down any notes to study with just in case he was to forget about this particular spell which was called Numididae Verto, a spell that is on cross species transfiguration. Kenny then looked on as the professor demonstrated the magic spell on the fowl and was amazed as it suddenly turned into a guinea pig. It seemed that it was going to be ok after all, just then the professor performed another spell as the guinea pig turned back into the fowl which took him by surprise. After the demonstration was over the professor told the class to proceed using the spell to change the fowl that is on there table to a guinea pig which seemed like a fairly easy task. However just then the professor told them that Transfiguration is about three things which were wand movement, incantation and concentration which Kenny wrote the three words down on his notes just in case and then he heard that that he has to say Numididae Verto to change the fowl to the guinea pig and say Verto Numididae to change the Guinea Pig back to a fowl while swishing the wand 2 times at least about three times.
Kenny then slowly took the fowl out of the cage and place it on his desk as he got out his wand and looked at the fowl while taking a deep breath and concentrating so that he can be able to get a good chance of not messing up the spell. After a few deep breathes he swished the wand 2 times and began the incantation “Numididae Verto” Kenny said in a calm tone as the Fowl suddenly transformed into a Guinea Pig as Kenny was surprised and sighed in relief. He then looked at the guinea pig and smiled at its cuteness as the rodent looked at him blinking a bit. Kenny then took some deep breathes and concentrated again with 2 good wand swishes and then saying the other incantation “Verto Numididae”, as he said this the rodent turned back into the fowl as Kenny formed a smile on his face. “Now to do it two more times” he quietly said to himself as he took a few breaths and concentrated and proceeded to swish the wand twice and say the incantation again. “Numididae Verto” he said and the fowl once again turned into the guinea pig as Kenny was so amazed by how the guinea pig was so cute with the whiskers and eyes. Once again he took some breaths to concentrate and swished the wand twice and proceeded to say the second incantation, “Verto Numididae” he said with feeling as the guinea pig became a fowl while squealing a little bit, as it turned back into a fowl it squawked a few times as Kenny realized that it was true what the professor said when these animals will feel pain as he looked a bit sad at the animal. He had already done the task good 2 times and now he was going to perform it one more time as he closed his eyes and took some deep breaths to concentrate and focus before anything else, he then took out the wand and swished it twice and then said the words in a calm tone again. “Numididae Verto” he chanted as the Fowl changed into the guinea pig while the squawks turned a bit to some squeals. Kenny looked at the rodent and lightly patted it to comfort it and smile at it to let it know that all was ok. “Alright one more time” he said as he stretched a bit and closed his eyes to take some deep breaths, after some good deep breathes he was ready as he swished his wand two times and chanted the incantation. “Verto Numididae” he said in determination as the guinea pig slowly changed back into the fowl which squawked a bit though not too loud as Kenny placed his wand down and petted the fowl carefully before placing it back to the cage and then closed it up to wait for further instructions.

Oh! So they were doing revision! Well, that through Arianne a little bit off-guard but not so much. If she'd done it last year, she had had it perfect last year - Arianne couldnt tolerate anything less than perfection from her own self, just like from others - and thus she should be able to able to manage it this year. She was a little bit concerned, however, because she wanted her notes from last year, and also the book from last year, neither of which she'd brought, and she shook her head at her own stupidity, thus missing the question that the Professor had asked. She raised her hand a moment later, when she realized that he'd asked, but by that time the gryffindor girl had already answered. Arianne wrote down her answer on the parchment, which she'd neatly titled "Transfiguration: Class 1 - Changing the Guinea Fowl to the Guinea Pig (Revision)". She followed this up with a neat box which had the incantation and wand movement noted - she had not forgotten, but she liked to re-write. She probably spent twice as much on stationery as her classmates.
Now came the difficult part, of course, she actually had to do the spell. Well, that sucked. Arianne enjoyed spells, especially learning and watching them, but doing them was quite another thing - especially transfiguration spells, which for some reason were very, very difficult for her. She paused, realized she'd made a blob of ink on her parchment by playing around with her quill as she pondered, and blotted it out neatly. Some people thought only homework had to be neat, but Arianne was definitely not one of them. She liked all her work to be done neatly, or not at all. So she put down her quill, and looked at her fowl, and tried to concentrate like she'd been asked to - she took a deep breath and attempted to clear her mind. This took a little bit longer than she thought it would - once she realized that 'clear your mind' and 'don't think' were also thoughts that she had to stop thinking. She took a moment to read the whole page 78, clearly, before starting.
It was nearly fifteen minutes before she was even ready to begin, and the others were quite far ahead. She saw Liberty half-change her fowl and gulped. She'd done that enough times herself but it still made her awfully nervous to watch. She looked away and considered her fowl, which was giving her an odd look. She glanced hastily at her notes, and then said, "Verto Numididae" as clear as she could, accompanied by the 2 swishes of her wand. Nothing happened. "Verto Numididae" she said again, repeating the gesture. The bird gave a loud squawk, but, once again, it showed no change - not even half a change, and this was starting to get really frustrating for Arianne. She'd known it last year and done it and everything - how could she have forgotten it this year. "Verto Numididae" she tried again, but this time both her hand and voice was shaky, and the bird did not even look up. She looked around, and then back at her parchment. What was she doing wrong?
And then she realized her mistake. She had been doing the wrong spell! Now this was not like Arianne at all - she generally checked the spell thrice before starting - but the fact that it was transfiguration and the fact that she was late - she checked the watch again, only to find that there was only half an hour left. She tried to calm herself down, swished her wand with perfect, controlled movements, and said, "Numididae Verto!". There was a squawk and she shut her eyes in anticipation, but when she opened them a moment later there was a cute little guinea pig in the cage. She looked it over, but saw no bird-like features, so she guessed it was fine. Perfect, in fact. She managed a half-smile, and then decided she better be getting on her assignment.
"Verto Numididae," she said, clearly, and then the guinea pig turned into the fowl, with little or no problems. She stopped, and took a deep breath, realizing that she was starting to become over confident. She'd only managed it once - she had to do it thrice. "Numididae Verto," she said, and managed it back - though the counter spell, "Verto Numididae" did not work quite as well - the bird still had the ears of a pig. She sighed, and then tried to change it into a full pig, with "Numididae Verto," which worked. She repeated the spell, "Verto Numididae," this time managing it perfectly. She hoped she would be able to manage it a few more times - and then repeated in a few more times. In fact, she was still practicing with the other students started packing up and getting ready for class to end - Arianne did not like to waste moments in the class.

He recognized Kadie walking in first (one of his Quidditch friends), followed by Arianne (his Leaky Cauldron buddy). It was interesting to see people that you normally hang out with in a class setting as sometimes there is a huge difference. These people in the class were smart and he always secretly wants to do better than them and 1up them. He would try his best to do it today with this spell.
He listened as the professor asked a question and a girl answered correctly earning 10 points to Gryffindor. He knew the answer too but the girl beat him to it. Ah well, it wasn't that big a deal. He then continued to listen as the professor demonstrated and retaught the cross-species spell. He remembered this spell from last year but also had some difficulty with it so he wanted to make sure he fully understood it before he went and did it today. He didn't want to experience much splinching and he wanted to show his professor that he had learned something that stuck with him. He flipped through the textbook and started to read about the spell.
Without much warning, the bird cages flew open and time had started. He continued reading carefully and then took out his wand pointing it at the bird. "Numididae Verto" he said with two swishes of his wand, but he rushed it too much and caused some splinching. The squeal of the rat and the squawk of the bird combined into one sound. Feathers still showed and talons were still visible. Shoot. Shoot shoot shoot. He needed to try that again and he hoped his professor didn't see. "Verto Numididae"
|
He said and he watched as the fowl returned to it's normal form. Maybe this was harder than he thought. He needed to relax. With a deep breath he cleared his mind and concentrated on the task at hand. He swished his wand two times and said "Numididae Verto" and watched as the fowl turned into the guinea pig just as it did last year. Ah that was more like it. He felt much more accomplished and wanted to see his professor glance over at the guinea pig before changing it back. "Verto Numididae" He said and it successfully changed back into a fowl. He definitely needed to try this again though. If this was as important as the professor said it was for OWLs he needed to make sure he got this down pat. He tried it a couple more times and although he did splinch one more time, he got it the other two. He felt successful and with that, put the bird back in the cage and waited for further instruction just as the professor said to do.
