Arianne liked to come to class early. This was mostly because she liked the time to prepare, the time to get into the atmosphere of the classroom, the time to fall into the regular pattern of studying. It calmed her down before class, and she believed that it made it easier for her to concentrate. Thus, she'd gotten up early that morning, worn her school uniform, and set all her books - all set for her first lesson of the day - Ancient Runes. She had worked particularly hard to fit Ancient Runes into her time-table, and this was the first time she was taking it, thus she was particularly excited for it, even though she thought it might be a little difficult.
So, she walked out early that morning, all her assigned books neatly kept in a strong black bag that she had bought last year and which had become indispensable since. She liked how it had a special compartment for her wand - where it could not be damaged - and another for the quills and ink, where if the ink spilled it couldn't hurt her books. With this, admittedly heavy but highly efficient satchel in hand, she found the Ancient Runes classroom (she had looked it up the previous night to prevent incidents of reaching late) and walked in, quickly taking a seat in the front row.
Then began her pre-class ritual. It had been there since the first day of first year and had barely changed since. Arianne removed her books and placed them parallel and close to the left edge, took out her favorite goose-feather quill and some ink and placed the quill parallel to the top and the ink near it's pointed end, and finally placed her quill on the other side of the desk parallel to the right edge. A roll of parchment lay in her bag, just in her reach because the bag was right next to her right leg. It left just enough space in the middle of the desk to keep one book open, which was all that was regularly required anyway. Once all this was done, Arianne was took a deep breath. She was ready now.
That was when she stopped and looked at her new teacher, who hadnt turned back yet, perhaps not noticing her arrival. That was when she ventured, somewhat timidly, "Good morning, Professor." [/color] Then she noticed the projected word. Arianne had studied before coming for her class - even though it was her first class and she hadnt understood much of what she was studying - but she did not recognize the word. She nervously pulled open one of the textbooks, leafing through the pages and hoping to find it and its meaning. For a while, he sat puzzling over Down 57: What's in your tea? He tilted back a bit further in his chair and considered... ten letters... but divination didn't fit. He felt sure it would have to be something close to it, though, the tea comment could hardly be anything else, and-
--"Good morning, Professor," the voice said.
Shwa-bang! Isaac made to turn around in his surprise, and he and his chair came crashing to the ground behind his desk. His head bounced against the ground with a loud thwack, and rather than curse or yell, he laughed at his own stupidity. He hoisted himself up by the edge of his desk and smiled cheerfully.
"Good morning," he said brightly, "Welcome to Ancient Runes."
With a bit of a grunt, he bent over and righted the old chair, and then looked back at the student at her desk. Even if she hadn't been wearing robes, Isaac would have been willing to bet money that she was a Ravenclaw. The majority of his students were, in the first place. In the second place, she was there early, which had something distinctly Ravenclaw about it. And in the third place, she seemed to have set everything out on her desk in some kind of ritualistic order. Books just so, everything arranged so that it would be pretty to look at.
Yeah. Ravenclaw without a doubt.
He gestured to the book open on her desk with one hand and smoothed out the hair on the back of his head with the other. He'd been about to ask her if she'd read through any of the text already, and then he turned to look at the crossword still magically projected on the board.
"Oh- oh! That!" he said, with a wave of his hand. "It's not a rune. Bletching. It's a Quidditch foul," he remarked, wiping the puzzle away with a wave of his wand. "Just something to do before class."

She had just been sitting on the chair, her back absolutely straight, and had just extended her morning greeting when she suddenly her teacher turned, and fell, with a magnificent crash. Shocked, she rose up from her seat, partly shocked and partly concerned, because he'd been leaning in an awful angle and she had heard a loud thwack where his head had hit the ground. "Professor?" she ventured again, though even more cautiously so as not to cause him further injury. "Are you alright?" she started to ask, except that the man had already gotten up, and contrary to her expectations had also laughed. Well, if he could laugh he probably wasnt very seriously injured, and she sat down in her place again, still a little agitated - something that showed from her face.
He got up to greet her, and she smiled, even though she was a little bemused by his expectation. It was the first time she was taking Ancient Runes, but Arianne expected her Professors to look like teachers. There was something distinctly odd about the way the man in front of her was dressed, and something even odder about his demeanor, though Arianne couldnt really point a finger to what was so off about it. And what had he been doing when she'd entered? A crossword? She stopped, and decided that she was being unfair. The clothing could just be a difference in style, and the crossword might be an innovative study technique to teach Ancient Runes.
His next words, however, surprised her even further. Her first reaction, of course, was relief that it wasnt something which she was expected to know and didnt know - but her next reaction was just plain disbelief at what a quidditch foul had to do with Ancient Runes. She didnt quite know this, but both these emotions rotated on her face in rapid succession. After a moment of deciding that she'd probably made a mistake with her class choices - and after trying so hard to fit this into her schedule and dropping astronomy! - but that she was here to learn. She opened her book and started re-reading the material as she waited for others to come.

Post by Kenny Micheal Templeson on May 18, 2011 12:37:30 GMT -5
It was the start of a new day already and already Kenny Templeson seemed a bit nervous for his first class of the first day of school. The class that he was going to was known as Ancient Ruins which was a class that was totally all new to him in his Fifth Year at Hogwarts which he heard from students that the class was going to be a tough one. Despite all this, Kenny was not going to let the class get the best of him at all. He had already woke up and proceeded to clean himself up this morning so that he can look very nice for the classroom and not feel out of place. After getting dress in his school outfit and cleaning up his glasses so that they don’t look a bit spotty before the day starts Kenny made his way to the Sixth Floor of Hogwarts.
After going up the stairs which also involved waiting for them to move around the place, Kenny finally made it to the classroom double checking if all of his supplies was in his bag. He looked in his bag and was relieved to see that all of his stuff was in there and nothing missing. However as he closed his bag he felt his hands shaking a bit as he felt a bit disappointed that he had yet to enter the class and already he felt afraid of how its going to turn out. He then took a deep breath to calm down and slowly opened the door to the classroom and noticed that there was only two people in here so far one of them is obviously the professor and the other person was a student who apparently came in this class early as well. Kenny sighed with relief as he entered the classroom stumbling a little bit which was a bit embarrassing, however he quickly recovered and looked for a place to sit down.
As soon as Kenny found a good seat at the front row he opened up his bag and got out both his quill and ink and placed them on one side of his desk after checking if the ink container was closed first, and then he got out some of the books while placing the bag under his desk. He was now ready for the class the start but while he waited he figure that maybe at least he can try to make a good impression and at least say hello so that he would not be afraid to even speak. He noticed the student who was getting ready and waved at her and proceeded to speak.
“Hello there” he said to the student while keeping a smile
He then noticed the Professor of the class sitting by his work desk working on something. It seemed that Kenny felt that it would be at least right to greet the teacher before the class would start as he slowly waved at the professor.
“Good Morning Professor sir.” Kenny said in a calm tone hoping not to disturb him one bit.

Kadie had become a bit better about not being the first person to come to class. But this year was a huge year. Fifth year. And she was determined to get all O's in her O.W.L's. Ancient Runes fascinated her, and she was good at it. So she wasn't as worried about this class as she was her potions class or her herbology class. But she knew that it would still be challenging, which was good. She liked her classes to be challenging. She got to the classroom still a bit early, like she always did. Five minutes early wasn't too bad though right? She'd once had a thing with being ten minutes early, but really what was the point of that?
Yes, Kadie was Gryffindor, but she did have very Ravenclaw attributes. Her brain was one of those things. She was very happy with the house that she was in though. But getting good grades was very important to her as well. She sat down in the middle of the room, giving a smile to Arianne as she did so. She got her things she needed for this class out of her backpack and placed them in front of her, getting ready for the class.
She was excited for this year. But she was also nervous. Fifth year was such a huge year. She'd gotten amazing grades so far, but this year counted way more then before. She only hoped she could pull off top grades. If she got E's in a few, she knew she would learn to live with that. But it wasn't what she was going for. She'd live in that library this year if she had to. Maybe she was being too hard on herself, but part of why she wanted to do well was because her parents were hoping she'd fail in the wizarding world and come model. They didn't think she could do this. Well, she was going to show them. She would get her O.W.L results back and rub it in their faces. Not that they would really understand what an O meant, but she'd explain it to them. Not that they'd even pay attention, but still. She would be proud and that would be enough.
Kadie started leafing through the course book for the class, just skimming. She'd already read the book after getting her course list of books she would need to get. Maybe that was a bit overzealous, but she'd done it during a modeling shoot just to annoy her mother. Her mother hadn't wanted any wizarding world stuff shown in public. She'd sent her home to hide the book after she'd gotten caught, which had been Kadie's intent all along anyway. She figured she would just leaf through the book until class was underway.

Roll away your stoneNOW ROLL AWAY MINE.Together we can see WHAT WE WILL FIND.
[/i] would watch her walk in. Few things seemed more terrifying, particularly on the first day of term. Row shifted her bag, higher up her shoulder and continued her quick pace to the Ancient Runes classroom on the sixth floor. She'd just had her first transfiguration lesson of the year and, particularly with the weight of such heavy text books in her bag, couldn't wait until fifth year when free lessons were included in her schedule. Luckily Transfiguration was only on the fifth floor so she didn't have too far to go - depending on where the staircases were today. Finally she reached the classroom, she couldn't hear the loud rabble of students talking inside which meant that either she was one of the first to arrive or the class had already begun. Only one way to find out. Rowena pushed gently on the classroom door which swung open at her touch. Inside were only four people and no talk of Ancient Runes so she had managed to make it in time. First she saw Kenny, who was in her house, she recognised him but had never really spoken to him what with him being two years older than herself. Next she saw Arianne, whom she had met only this morning. Somewhere behind her was Kadie Taylor, Rowena's friend. The Hufflepuff girl gave her a smile and started into the classroom. Finally, Rowena saw her teacher, she gave him a quick smile and a quiet "Good morning, Professor." before hurrying the a seat in the second row, behind Arianne. As she walked over, she smiled at the Ravenclaw girl and gestured to her robes which she had changed into quickly after their conversation this morning. Rowena took her seat and pulled out the Runes text book, a bottle of blue ink and a beautiful green quill which had been a present sent from Africa by her brother. She sat quietly, looking around the beautiful classroom with it's strange shaped walls and dust dancing in the streams of sunlight. Eventually, she turned back to the front to take in the crossword puzzle which hung in front of them all. She was certainly confused, particularly after seeing the name of a Quidditch foul and several other non-Runes related words spread across the puzzle. Hopefully this wasn't part of the class, answering questions in front of everyone else, as a shy girl, was nothing short of a nightmare. She was leafing through the book idly. It was clear that class had not yet started and her Professor did not seem to be discussing anything, so Arianne was using the time to catch up on some studying and memorizing. It was her OWL year, after all, and it would not do to waste any time. She had to use every available moment that she had in order to do well enough in her OWLS, especially for difficult subjects like Ancient Runes where she had little or no experience. When you were taking many more classes than you were allowed or even recommended, it was imperative to not waste time.
All of a sudden though, a number of students started entering in one class one after the other. The first was a hufflepuff that she recognized very vaguely as someone called Kenny, but she didnt actually know him. However, he did greet her, so she looked up from her book and smiled at him. "Hi," she said, with a sweet smile. Next to enter was Kadie, who had started off studying with her, and had slowly moved up to be one of her closest friends. She smiled at Kadie, resolving to ask her if she wouldnt mind studying together for Ancient Runes. One thing she knew about Kadie was that she was intelligent and determined, which she liked because she was almost like that herself.
And finally she saw among the arrivals was Rowena, a young girl she had met not so long ago. She smiled at her, and grinned when the girl pointed to her robes. "Didnt get into any trouble, I hope," she whispered to the girl, leaning back a little to where she was sitting behind Arianne. She did not think it was wrong for her to do so, there was no teaching going on, and most of the class hadnt even arrived yet, so she thought it was okay for her to whisper to the girl. Arianne was not the kind to break rules.
