like a waterfall in slow motion
6:45 on Saturday evening, and this was going to be Liz's last class of the week. Lessons had gone pretty well so far, so she was extremely relieved about that. She loved teaching. And loved whenever the students got involved and asked questions. There were even a few students who seemed to love Astronomy as much as she did, and who had even come to her office and asked her questions, just interested in learning more. And Liz could talk a lot about astronomy. It had always been her passion.
Before this year she had no idea if she would be able to become the professor. She had been sure that there would have been many applying for the job. And she'd been honest about the fact that she had a young daughter and she was a single mother. But that hadn't seemed to matter. She'd been hired anyway. And even though it was only her first week, it was already such a huge blessing. She was slowly picking up the pieces since her husband's death. It had been three years since his death, and in some ways it felt like she'd been struggling on her own for forever. In other ways it felt like yesterday.
Teaching had helped for sure. And her daughter always helped. She always kept going because of that girl. Her daughter was her entire world. And she was thankful that having a job where she taught at night, allowed her to be at home with her daughter and spend time with her during the day. Of course, she was also here quite a bit during the day in her office. But she always made sure to be there for her daughter as often as she could be, because her daughter came first.
She was sitting in the front of the room at her desk. There were about twenty or so single desks in the lower part of the classroom. There were stairs that led to the upper part of the classroom where there was a balcony and some telescopes in order to look at the night sky with.
Liz simply sat at her desk as she made sure that she was ready for her final lesson of the week as she waited for her students to file in and take their seats.
