Aisling was the type of person to do her own thing. Not too many people ever told her what to do in life. Her brother encouraged her to be strong and grown-up for her age, which is probably why they always got along so well even though he was a full 10 years older than her. Her parents were also very much into the idea of giving their daughter an independence that she could be proud of. None of them set up too many restrictions, so when Aisling wanted to do something, she basically just moved forward with whatever whim moved her at the time. She rarely felt the company of others necessary, so the fear of needing someone to do something with her was never much of an issue. She kept weird time patterns, waking up and going to sleep when she wanted to, so school was an adjustment. Over her past three years here, she did learn to live by a schedule for the most part, but sometimes insomnia plagued her and she longed to just watch the night sky. That's why she decided to go to the astrology tower by herself. She probably wasn't allowed to be up there past curfew without there being class, but Aisling didn't really care.
The door creaked loudly as Aisling pushed herself against it. The castle was old, so doors were big and heavy. She wasn't that strong, so she did put quite a bit of her weight against it and was a little taken aback when it made so much noise. Maybe it was because it was in stark contrast with the silence of the empty tower, but Aisling felt like the entire castle could hear it. She convinced herself that was really just silly and the door made no more noise that it normally did. Besides, she wasn't really going to let some creaky old door scare her too badly. She wandered all through the Burren at night in Ireland by herself. After that the astronomy tower was nothing.
Not wanting to bother closing the heavy door, Aisling slipped through when it was just wide enough to allow her slim frame. It was gorgeous up here. The stars were already all out, which they really ought to be at 11 pm. They looked like diamonds up there; all of different sizes and sparkle. They made formations that Aisling knew of and others that she could only guess. And every time she recognized a constellation, her mind painted the rest of the picture around the stars. It was calming and relaxing with a slight breeze blowing through the fresh September night. Absolutely perfect weather to be out here.
She didn't bother sidling up to a telescope to view each star more perfectly. She knew that there would be enough for that in class itself. No, tonight Aisling just felt like being less than a spec on earth to all of them. Something about the beauty of nature always put her in awe. So the petite girl lowered herself to the floor of the tower and laid back. She placed her hands under her head for a make-shift pillow, somewhat wishing she would have at least thought a little of her comfort before trekking up here. It would do, however. Besides it didn't take her much time to be lost in thought and trying to count how many eyes were twinkling down at her from the heavens.

Here we go again, I feel the chemicals kickin’ in It’s getting heavy and I want to run and hide
I do it every time, you're killing me now I won’t be denied by you, the animal inside of you Steven had dropped quite a few classes after taking his O.W.L.s; it wasn’t that he failed them, only History of magic, but that he had no interest in the classes from the beginning. For example potions, that was the first to go off his list of classes, it was an awful class, and you didn’t have to be good at magic to do potions. It was all comprehensive skill, and Steven didn’t have much. One of the classes Steven missed the most after dropping was Astronomy. When he was a student in the class he hated it, thought it was a complete waste of time. His mind was defiantly changed when he wasn’t anymore. He missed being able to look at the stars.
Steven couldn’t sleep at all, which lead to his night time wondering. He really wasn’t afraid to get caught by a teacher, he had never been caught in all six years of his magical education, and it was something the Gryffindor was good at. Sadly he had no clue as to where the kitchens were, so getting food was out of the option, he had heard rumors that they were located in the top if the castle. Steven found this hard to be true, since he had never came across them, and he spent more than half of his time on the top levels of Hogwarts.
Since he knew nowhere else to go, Steven made his way up to the astronomy tower. He would be lying if he said he didn’t love it up there that stars were so captivating, so hard not to turn away from once you got a glimpse. When Steven made it to the door he saw that it was already open, he didn’t expect anyone to be up here, so he came to the conclusion that the class must have left it open when they were done by accident. Steven was defiantly not fat, he was toned and there was no way he would make it through the door without pushing it open a bit more. Hearing the awful stretch as he pushed it open made him jump back, the door wasn’t usually that noisy, maybe it was warped from rain or something.
Walking into the tower, Steven saw someone lying on the ground, were they okay? Steven got closer as he made his way over quietly, not wanting to scare the person. “Are you okay?” Steven asked quietly. It wasn’t every night you found someone laying on the floor of a tower.

Aisling laid there motionless. The girl probably looked like a statue. Her bright blue eyes were the only thing to move as they darted about the sky, bouncing off one star to the next. She was discovering her own constellations and making patterns. For the ones that she didn't know the names of, she created her own. Pretty names from Ireland of all the flowers and folklore. She'd never remember, but for tonight they were fun. Laying out here made her think of being back home and her mind wandered across the break between this country and hers. She was oblivious to anything outside of the moment, which wasn't really too hard to imagine.
The door creaked after some time. It sounded just as loud as before. It could have been the wind, but Aisling doubted it, remembering how heavy it was. It didn't bother her, though. Her slight fear of being caught by a professor had left her when the calmness of the night swept through her soul. Whatever it was didn't make her stir. She continued on as she was and the noise was quickly abandoned by her mind for more stargazing.
Although her mind may have dismissed the simple squeak, it could not drown out the voice a male. It was deeper, so Aisling decided that whomever it was, he was probably older than herself. That was about as much as she could gather besides that he might be a caring individual, seeing as he was inquiring after her well being. Aisling also considered the fact that he might simply think her a freak for laying on the ground like a dead person.
"Yes, I'm quite alright," she mused. Her voice sounded almost as distant as the bright lights in the sky. "And how are you? Are you okay?"
Aisling, although prone to make socially awkward comments due to a nasty flaring of sarcasm and foot-in-the-mouth, tried to be cordial whenever possible. She was raised to be a good person. If she wasn't, she wouldn't be proud of herself, and at the end of the day, Aisling knew she must always like who looked back at her in the mirror.

I do it every time, you're killing me now I won’t be denied by you, the animal inside of you Steven was happy to know that the girl was alright, he expected her to be hurt, or maybe even worse. “That’s good, honestly from back there you look…” clearing his throat, “well…you looked dead.” Steven wasn’t embarrassed to say this at all, it was the honest truth. They grey eyed boy took in her question and how are you? Are you okay? Steven really didn’t know how to answer this, he had a pretty crappy day, he had completely failed his Defense against the Dark Art’s homework, he had received a T, a new personal worst. Thinking about the girls question even more Steven answered.
“I’ve had better days, today has been especially bad.” Running his hand’s through his longish untamed hair, “If you were asking about my day, not my health or wellbeing.” Steven didn’t recognize the girl, she defiantly wasn’t a sixth year, his year. He also knew most of the fifth years, so maybe she was a fourth year? Steven looked up at the night sky, and completely forgot he was talking to someone, the sky had taken over his mind, it was so black, but the white globes, made it bearable. It reminded Steven of his last few weeks, black, not great, but there were the tiny spurts of joy in it.
“Mind if I sit and watch the stars with you?” Steven didn’t mean to intrude, that was just his personality. He was going to be polite enough to wait for her response before he sat down. Maybe she didn’t want company and wanted to be alone and play dead. Before the girl could respond, “Oi! Forgot to introduce myself, the names Steven, sixth year Gryffindor, and you are?” Crossing one foot over the other Steven waited for the younger girls reply, hopefully it was a yes or he was going to have to watch the starts from somewhere else.

[sorry i took so long. it's been a busy couple days]
Aisling kept looking up at the stars when he mentioned something about her being dead. She noticed the hesitation in his voice. He was afraid of it. That was fine. Most people were afraid of death. She pondered it a little herself. Was she afraid? Not entirely for her own sake, but she might have been frightened to stumble upon a dead body in the middle of the night. She couldn't begrudge this young man that. So maybe death was simply an indifferent subject to her for the time being. Something to ponder while she watched the stars that she had heard so many times were just passed on souls glimmering in the night sky.
"Oh, I really had no preference for the reference in my question. Whichever you prefer. Small talk regarding your day may just be easier to converse with a stranger. I don't blame you. Your well-being should be a concern, but I'll leave that up to you."
She still hadn't turned to look at him. Her voice really just floated up to the sky. He might have thought her strange, but this was normally why Aisling didn't make the best socialite.
"I am rather displeased to hear about your horrible day. At the same time, you ought to be thankful for it. I'm sure you appreciate the good days much more for it."
It was a philosophy that had been ingrained in Aisling's mind since childhood. Nothing could be perfect every day, nor should it be. The bad made the good better and the dark transformed the light into something brighter. Then again, there were only extremes so the world would have something to contrast and all was just in a strange state of flux.
A silence enveloped the tower. It was comfortable, at least for Aisling. She was used to the quiet. Whomever was with her seemed to spirit away with the wind. Maybe she even imagined him. She never saw him, never knew what he looked like. Maybe it was a ghost who could disappear as easily as it appears, but that would be silly seeing how the door creaked upon his arrival. But no, he most definitely was not a ghost because his voice appeared once again. He must have wandered off mentally just as Aisling was oft to do when she had something previously nagging her.
A polite request was what she heard. Chivalry; perhaps a Gryffindor? Not that she ever really paused to wonder about the house before. Interesting how things floated up. She was more than willing to oblige anything with such manners, but couldn't give a response for a quickly remembered, impromptu and slightly awkwardly tongued introduction. This boy- Steven- had indeed been a Gryffindor, also older than her by two years.
At this point, Aisling decided it best to actually face her visitor. She pulled herself up gracefully, her hair that was splayed over the rocks falling perfectly straight against her back and shoulders. Turning slightly, she pulled her legs in pretzel-style and extended a tiny, piano trained hand up towards the recent acquaintance.
"The name is Aisling," she responded. She didn't give her house or year. Rarely was it pertinent. She grew up in a world where 10 years difference meant nothing between siblings and she felt that houses often gave people horrible misconceptions.
"And you may join me if you wish. I don't own the sky or anything in this castle. It'd be rude of me to forbid you access to such a wonder."
