WELL SHE LIVES IN A F A I R Y T A L E SOMEWHERE TOO FAR FOR US TO FIND - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Arianne and outdoors did not get along. At all. You might ask why, but you didnt actually have to - you just had to take one look at the prim, perfect little Ravenclaw with her pale skin and the dark circles beneath her eyes and the desperate wiping of anything with even a particle of dust on it, and you'd have your answer. Factor in the dust, the insects, and the miscellaneous dirty things that she was sure to find outdoors, it was really no wonder that she did not go outside in the sun. In fact, the only thing to wonder about was why the girl, who generally preferred to stay closeted indoors even when it was absolutely impossible to stay indoors for whatever reason, was outside at all.
But outside she was, carrying a very, very large bag and very heavy bag. It was heavy enough, in fact, that she stumbled all the way to the lake, where she was supposed to be. She ignored all the students around her - not because she couldnt be bothered with them but simply because Arianne did not often notice people or things about people unless they were called to her attention. Once there, she started a slow, methodical unpacking. First came an absolutely pristine blue sheet that she spread neatly on the grass - making sure that the ends were secure and that there wasnt a single wrinkle or spot on the sheet. Then came out an array of books, more than you could have supposed even that large brown bag could have carried. These were neatly stacked on one edge of the sheet. Nobody really stopped to observe them, but if they would have they would've seen mostly History of Magic - Ari's favorite subject, and also that of her study companion's.
Because that was why she was here. Because Liberty had suggested that it might be nice to study outside for once and Arianne hadnt really been able to refuse or anything. And she hadnt wanted to. The whole plan had sounded quite interesting, quite different - go out with your books, make it like a picnic, study and enjoy the view. And even Arianne had to admit, as she sat down on the blue sheet, the day was quite a nice one to be out. It was late afternoon. The lake was absolutely beautiful - blue and deep and mysterious - and the sky was overcast, providing enough shade to not have to worry about it being hot and horrid. It was actually quite nice to study in natural light without having to worry about where to get a proper reading light from. And it was a weekend, with little or no other duties. Ari was almost warming up to the idea.
She started pulling out some other stuff from the bag, some quills, some parchment, and her wand. She had asked Liberty to bring some food - once Arianne had gotten the study-picnic idea into her head she had wanted it to be actually authentic, especially because she hadnt really had too many, or rather any, picnics before. She contemplated that with a smile, and she looked like a picture of happiness and youth - if anyone had seen her just then, they might have thought that she was a girl stuck in a fairytale of her own creation, lost in thoughts much less mundane than how she had to change her schedule to include more trips to Hogsmeade and how she had to read section 4.3 of the rule book to make sure she had gotten that rule right - though most people would be right about assuming that for a few moments, she was lost to the world.
And then she felt the sudden splash on her cheek. And then another drop fell on her, and then another, and then another - and suddenly it was raining hard and Arianne had absolutely no idea what to do.

Let the rain fall down and W A K E M Y D R E A M S let it wash away my s.a.n.i.t.y. ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●
Liberty and Arianne had left their common room together, with plans to study outdoors for once. She thought it would be a good experience for her friend, as the girl lived as if she were afraid of the dirt and such of the outside world. Liberty on the other hand happened to love being outdoors. Inside she often felt boxed in, suppressed, and she did that enough to herself mentally. It was a bit of a relief for her physical self to be a bit more free, and relaxing outdoors ended up being one of her stress outlets. Who knew, maybe it would work for Arianne too. They separated when they had climbed down many, many floors of stairs and emerged in the Entrance hall, Arianne to go outside and set up, and Liberty to the kitchens to get some food. The two girls were going all out, and planned on having a picnic and everything. Liberty was looking forward to it, as she was tired of studying indoors all the time. She knew every inch of walls of the Library, the study lounge, her common room, and her dormitory. It would be a nice change to be outdoors for once.
At the Kitchen, she was surrounded and crowded by helpful, friendly houselves the second she entered. She had always adored the creatures. After getting a good supply of picnic food (some sandwiches, salad, chicken cooked in bits, quiches, salads, scones, some fruit, cake and cookies) she was glad she had brought the bag that had an enchantment on it, so that it was bigger on the inside than it really appeared to be as well as lighter. The elves had been trying to convince her to take even more food but she had refused politely with many 'thank you, but this is enough, really!'s. With her school bag slung across her right shoulder, and her arms wrapped around the one with foodstuff in front of her, she headed for the big oak doors that lead to the lake outside.
Heading over to the lake, she could make her friend out from the distance, unpacking all of her study essentials from her bag. Arianne looked as if she were in a good mood, and Liberty wondered if her friend just might enjoy this change of surroundings as much as she did. Suddenly she was aware of a slight breeze against her, making a bit of her hair blow up slightly, and realised it was cooler than usual. Looking up at the overcast sky, she saw the deep grey clouds that had not been visible from the angle she had seen it when they had left the common room, which more overlooked the mountains than anything else. Darn it. She hoped the drops of rain would hold back for at least an hour so that they could have their picnic, but a few seconds after this thought-train had played out in her mind, a large raindrop splashed against hand dashing whatever hopes she had.
With one back on her shoulder and her two hands occupied with the next, and still being about ten steps away from Arianne she knew she would be unable to run for cover not to mention she would look completely ridiculous doing so and probably fall over along the way as she was holding so much things. Plus, she could not just leave her friend in the lurch like that, seeing as as far as she could tell the poor girl looked a bit lost at to what she should do next. Liberty knew Arianne was not used to being outdoors.... but really? Thinking quickly she hurried over to where her friend was, dropping the two bags on the blue sheet before pointing her wand to the the sheet with everything, uttering 'Impervius!' to make it water repellant. She pulled she sheet out from under the books and everything else Arianne had set out, causing it to scatter in a disarrayed manner and put the blue sheet on top of it so that it would shelter their stuff.
"I'm sorry!" she said sheepishly, forgetting that she was standing in the pouring rain and had not done anything to keep herself dry. She knew this would upset her friend as all of her belongings were now in a mess under it, but it made more sense that everything be scattered and stay dry that end up soaking wet, especially the books. Plus it was the first thing that she thought of doing. By now the rain was falling heavily, soaking through her clothes as she shivered slightly whenever she felt even the slightest wind.

WELL SHE LIVES IN A F A I R Y T A L E SOMEWHERE TOO FAR FOR US TO FIND - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One thing was very clear to anyone who might have witnessed the scene - Arianne was not prepared for the rain, and she did not know what to do in situations where she wasnt prepared. If she had had the slightest indication that it would rain she would've brought a few hundred protective covers for her belongings - or perhaps she would not have come out at all. From the way it looked, many others were in similar dilemmas, which Arianne was dully observing as she stood shell-shocked for a moment (after standing up from her sheet) - a boy was running through the rain holding something that looked like a toad, a few young girls in gryffindor uniforms were running in the wrong direction. She also had a moment to see a couple that was still kissing in the rain (did they have to?) before she realized with a start that it was raining, and she had to do something.
But what? What could she do? She got off the sheet, and realized that all the books were getting dirty. And wet. Arianne definitely did not like to let get books dirty. Or wet. She started picking up a few of the oldest ones in a futile attempt to keep them dry by bringing them closer to her. Then she realized that everything, including her hands and her clothing and her books were just getting wetter, and she dropped the books back on the pristine sheet. She vaguely wondered where her friend was, before pulling her wand out from the sheet, realizing that she would probably need it more than anything else if she had to have any hope to save the books and the rest of her belongings, not to mention herself.
But before Arianne could do anything, Liberty had come up, and upturned all her belongings on to the grass. (The grass! With insects and wet mud and well, grass!) Then she covered it with a sheet, and then covered it with a spell to repel water. Well, she should have probably thought of that herself, and perhaps two minutes ago - Arianne was sure that Goblin Revolts by the Key Figures, written by Ponderhook the Goblin, was already in a state of no repair. Arianne was clearly not used to dealing with the rain. She liked rain, sure. But from within the confines of her room. And sometimes not even then, because people came from outside with muddy feet. She did not like muddy feet at all. She glanced at her own feet, in mud stained flip-flops, and grimaced.
"I'm sorry," she heard from behind her.
"Liberty! I'm so glad you're here," was her first, impulsive statement. And it was absolutely sincere too. Arianne liked control, and Liberty had taken immediate control of the situation, even if it was not an ideal solution - they were, after all, stuck wet in the rain and cold with two huge bags that they had no idea how to transport back to the school. Still, Arianne knew she could rely on Liberty. She had always been able to rely on Liberty, almost since the first day when they'd been assigned to the same room and become friends. In fact, she often had no idea what she would do without Liberty, which was pretty much her situation right now.
"What are we going to do?" she said. "The rain came so suddenly...I'm pretty sure I've ruined the goblin revolts book." She paused a moment and made a 'o' with her mouth. "And the book about the founders!" That book was one of the oldest books in the library, and one of the rarest books in its collection. "I just panicked," she admitted. Arianne did not do well in situations that she was unprepared for - that was partly the reason she took care to prepare for absolutely everything. She took out a pin from her hair to put it back, a nervous gesture, and then realized that her hair was soaking wet, and so was the rest of her. She shivered uncomfortably as a cool wind hit her, and watched her friend mirror the gesture.
"We should probably go inside," she said. "But..." she looked back at the bundle under the (now dirty) blue sheet. To leave without the books and everything. To keep it lying here in the rain (even with the charm on) for an indefinite time period? No way.
