Liz planned out her best lesson plans here by the black lake at night for some reason. Her sister was living with her, so she was at the house in case Ally woke up or whatever. It was after her classes were over so it was pretty late. She was just starting to feel the ache in her bones and knew that she really should be getting back soon. But she kept on at her lesson plan for the next week, wanting to get it mostly done tonight and then she could polish it up tomorrow.
She suffered from insomnia anyway, and knew that she'd have trouble falling asleep even if she went back home right now. She always tried to make it home to get some sleep in so she could have almost full days with her daughter though. But her sister and her parents had definitely been a Godsend. She had her sister living with her and then her parents just next to them. So she always had people helping her out. But she wanted as much time with her daughter as she could get too. Her daughter came first.
Teaching Astronomy had been her dream since her very first days at Hogwarts. She'd just always known that it was what she wanted to do. And her late husband Cameron had always helped her in that dream. Now here she was, living that dream. But that dream didn't replace her daughter. Her daughter was her entire world. And Liz was so grateful to have her daughter, especially because her husband was dead.
It had been three years since his death, and there wasn't a day that went by that she didn't miss him and wish that he were here holding her in his arms. She set her books aside and closed her eyes and she could picture them here by the black lake at nights as they held each other. This had been their spot. But this hadn't been the only place. There were memories of Cameron everywhere in this place. But his presence wasn't just at Hogwarts. She could close her eyes and picture him just about anywhere.
Three years and she was still grieving. She had loved her husband fiercely. Her friends and her family all tried to get her out and date other guys, but it was tough. Not only did she have a daughter that guys her age were usually not mature enough to handle, but she found herself comparing them all to Cam, which wasn't really fair to any of the guys she'd been set up with. But she couldn't seem to stop either. Cam hadn't just been her husband. He'd been her best friend and now he was gone.
Liz tried not to dwell on it, but at nights it was particularly bad. Maybe that's why she suffered from insomnia so much. Because in the day time she could immerse herself in her work to try to forget. Nights in her bed were the hardest because she became all the more aware that he wasn't there holding her. She always had a smile on her face in the day time and around her students. For now she didn't have to pretend that she was okay because there was nobody out there to see her..............or so she thought.
