So she had had a pretty eventful day. After a transfiguration class, where she'd done absolutely amazing, of course, she'd had a major fight with her best friend - Astrid. This, you understand, was nothing new. The two girls fought practically every other day, fights where they'd viciously insult each other, bitch behind each other's backs (ok, well, that was just her), and call each other names, and the next day they'd both behave like nothing had happened last night - until, of course, they fought all over again. Diana cared just about as much for Astrid as she cared about anyone in the world - which, admittedly, was a very paltry amount - and she did rely on her to be her partner in crime (Astrid too, it seemed, loved attention) but sometimes she was just plain annoying. And she tried got into Diana's limelight, which was more than she'd tolerate.
But now it had been hours since she'd seen Astrid, and that was starting to annoy her, too.
So she'd gone to their common room, spread a few rumors in places where she knew they'd get to Astrid's ears, and then stalked off to the waterfalls, knowing she'd eventually try to find her and confront her. She hadnt been angry enough to spread anything true, and a lot of it was mindless crap - Astrid slept with the Potions Professor, Astrid once tried to make out with a girl who rebuffed her, stuff like that. She sat down on the rocks near the waterfall, which had a few people around even though it was late evening - and smiled. Ah, but she'd always loved an audience more than anything, and with her (extremely) short shorts, and the low cut cream top with the white jumper, she was already attracting a few stares. Especially from the guys around. That just made her grin, and she kicked off her heels (Diana loved heels enough to wear them even to the waterfalls) and plunged into the water at the base, emerging a moment later soaked through and attracting a few more stares from the people around her. Trashy, perhaps, but Diana loved the attention.
She swam in and out. She had always loved water - there had been an indoor pool in Durmstrang where she'd practically lived, and she was a powerful swimmer. She emerged out again, pouring a little water on herself - though she was was careful to miss her face. Even her expensive, water proof make-up might leak, and that would just be ugly. She lifted herself on to one of the rocks in the middle of the pool at the base of the waterfall, one long leg extending into the water. She leaned back on her hands, and dried off in the cool wind - nothing less than snow seemed actually chilly, she'd grown up in colder times - but she shivered once dramatically just for the effect. She checked on her pair of inch-high nude pumps (though she reflected cruelly that she was already taller than Astrid without them) and her designer handbag back on the edge of the pool and then leaned back on the rock, skimming her hand in the water, closed her eyes, and then listened to the waterfall, still very conscious of the stares she was attracting. A small smile played on her beautiful face.
Ah, maybe the waterfall would drown out Astrid's voice. Maybe.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) Astrid was walking around the lawns, thinking about how ridiculous Diana could be. Although there had been worst fights then today's she still couldn't stand Diana's constant drama. But through this, Astrid still liked having Diana around. Without her, life would probably be a little too boring. She couldn't be hanging out with the Cassandra's of the world all the time after all. She liked having a little adventure, she just hated the gossiping afterward. This she was sure Diana had gotten right on. Already she had heard something about the potions professor and herself. Like she would be into that, gross. This rumor she didn't much mind, the worst it could do would be get the poor man fired and wouldn't that be a blessing. Soon enough someone would realize the rumor was just a rumor. And after both girls would be expected to be friends by dawn. It was annoying that she would have to be picking up the pieces afterward.
Stopping in the middle of the lawns, she looked around hoping to spot Diana. She was not in sight. Astrid decided to check the waterfalls. Even if Diana was not there, it would be a great place to relax and flirt with a couple of unsuspecting victims. What was better then a Slytherin girl, after all?
On a good day, the girls were made up only a few hours after their fight. Today Astrid had found refuge in looking through some clothing catalogs instead of running back to her friend/enemy. And it must have been quite a few hours now, she wondered how Diana was doing without her by her side, and hoped that the girl realized she was hardly anything interesting without her partner in crime. After all, Diana never actually did anything that bad. she just loved talking about it. And her motives were a jumbled mess that could never quite be untangled, even by Astrid who was around the girl as much as anyone could stand to be.
Astrid reached the waterfalls and although she was suppose to be looking for Diana her eyes wandered through the men, swimming half dressed. If she was an animal she would have licked her lips. Although most of them were only boys, she still looked on them and was briefly glad she had worn as little as she had. She briefly looked down on her outfit and then looked back up at her new-found prey. She smiled and walked into the pond. The water was cold, but not too bad, she could walk in up to her thighs without getting her shorts wet. Which definitely said something about her outfit.
Astrid realized none of the boys eyes were on her, and quickly found the source. Diana was sprawled soaking wet just across the way. Astrid muttered, "what a tease" knowing that most of the boys could hear her. And like magic, half a dozen heads turned to see what was interrupting their busy eyes. She only saw them grow larger. Suddenly aware that her leather heels were getting wet, Astrid pushed a couple boys aside, making sure to touch their chests as she went. Now looking at Diana she walked up the compressed sandy shoreline saying, "I see you did a pretty good job at keeping the crowd interested."
Astrid was aware that Diana was quite a bit vainer then herself. Much more obsessed with how she looked, so Astrid made sure to flip her blond hair over her shoulder and give the crowd a smile before she sat down next to her friend.

As she sat there, reflecting in the waterfall, she was thinking about how much of a better swimmer she'd been back when she was younger. Nowadays, she barely got to swim at all. For one, depending on the weather, it ruined her complexion, which was something that severely annoyed Diana. For another, who'd swim in the black lake, with a hundred different kinds of creatures who might decide to come and have a swim with you? And while there was always the waterfalls, they were just too bloody loud. They wouldnt even let her think in peace - not that Diana did a lot of thinking anyway. She was much more fond of going with the flow. And there was no way she'd go back to the time when she'd been younger, despite the indoor heated pool. No way.
A cool wind was blowing on her face. It felt good. She was liked cold weather. Snowball fights, candy canes (Diana was absurdly fond of candy, and she avoided it only because she didnt want to break out in spots or get fat - though she did let go once in a while) and mistletoe. Those were some of her favorite things in the world. Which reminded her that she could eat candy canes even now (with quidditch season on, staying in shape was not that big a problem), and go visit the winter wonderland. It was, after all, a great place to flirt and frolic - especially when you threw in the snowballs. Almost as much fun as getting wet. Perhaps she could even take Astrid along. And that new girl they'd met - it took Diana a moment to recall that her name was Cassandra. Poor, little, innocent darling Cassandra.
This was boring. Where in the world was Astrid? As much as Diana detested her, she had to admit that things without her were a bore. She couldnt think of anything to do. She'd spent nearly an hour chatting up with those fools who were supposed to spread the rumors, another hour practicing some spells (she liked spells, simply because she could do them without any effort) and then an hour getting dressed and putting on her make-up (a process she would have to repeat now) and then she had had absolutely nothing to do. She hadnt even found any good looking specimens for her to flirt with. She was just reflecting on how much she loved flirting when she heard a very familar voice from the edge of the pool.
"what a tease"
She smiled, her eyes still closed. She was sure that even everyone who hadnt seen the two girls so far must have heard that. It reminded her a little of why she still got along with Astrid even though in the past two years they had gotten on each other's nerves to a very, very large extent. They were, at times, more enemies who sometimes talked rather than friends, though the world just saw them as two friends who kept on fighting. Still, Astrid was interesting (about as interesting as her, Diana reflected vainly) and it helped to hang out with her. Why else would Diana ever try to make a friend?
"I see you did a pretty good job at keeping the crowd interested."
She lifted herself up from the sleeping to the sitting position, gracefully, like a cat. Astrid had just taken a seat beside her. "Dont I always?" she said with a smile - but there was still a hint of malice. She had not completely forgiven Astrid, and the flip of the hair and the charming smile was not helping. This was her spotlight. "Right uptil you come along to scare everyone away," she remarked dryly, even though it was not actually true, a lot more people were looking at the two girls now. Since when had Diana been concerned about the truth? She looked for a moment at the rushing roar of the waterfall, and then turned back to the thin girl beside her (Astrid's body occasionally made her very, very jealous) and said, "So what...or, err..pardon me, who have you been doing for the past few hours?" She maintained a sweet smile. It was known around the school that Astrid was a major slut - a rumor that Diana too had a hand in spreading. After all, it was delicious. She would've loved such a rumor about herself.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) Astrid leaned back, her elbows supporting her. She felt the boy's attention on her like a wave of heat, and it felt good. Briefly she thought she got the short end of the stick, being stuck in the common room while Diana enjoyed the stares of half naked men. After all, didn't she deserve their stares? She was honest about her intentions, while Diana would always be a tease. In fact, Astrid believed that she was a better version of Diana in most ways. Her weight and her honesty being only minor factors to why all the boys should be interested in her, and not Diana.
Her vanity was interrupted as Diana declared,"Don't I always?". A little bit of teasing laughter was about to come through, but she sensed that Diana had not completely forgiven her and held it back. How annoying, Astrid thought. What could Diana's problem possibly be now, when their fight was obviously due to be over. She was ready for some light-hearted fun, possibly the kind any other girls would regret the next day. And it wasn't nearly as fun when your stupid wingman was being sour. Astrid didn't respond to the comment but listened as Diana continued, "Right uptil you come along to scare everyone away".
At this Astrid did laugh, one of her hand landing on her chest while she overdramatically threw her head back. She collected herself and took her gaze off of the audience for a moment, so she could face Diana. "You may have turned a few heads, but only I could have brought this crowd, a couple are actually cute here." With this, she turned back and scanned the crowd to discover she wasn't lying. A couple of people were cute and a couple more were recognizable, maybe from class. Although no one was anyone she really talked to, these were all the shy boys that would never actually approach girls with such a bad reputation. After all, Astrid and Diana were bad news, they would play with your mind and have fun with it. Which Astrid admitted to herself, was exactly what she planned on doing. She needed a new boy toy soon.
Diana spoke again, couldn't she understand that Astrid was enjoying the eye-candy right now? Apparently not, she said "So what...or, err..pardon me, who have you been doing for the past few hours?" This line, Astrid had to agree was much more tasteful. Astrid smirked, thinking about all the boys she could have been doing. Maybe, Diana was going to stop with her annoying behavior now. A hopeful thought entered Astrid's mind.
Although she was still slightly annoyed with Diana but she went with the joke and answered "Oh, wouldn't you like to know. But he...oops, I mean they don't like filthy gossips." It was a reference to what she knew Diana had been up to. It was a sure fact that Diana had been doing nothing but enjoying herself with the presence of other gossips of her kind.
With a rather smug expression she continued, taunting Diana because she knew that everything she said was the truth. "Oh, but girls like you don't need facts, do you? Why don't you tell me what I've been up to?" The reference to the one scandal she had heard and the others sure to be reaching her ears was obvious as she spoke. And in all honesty, it would be nice if Diana gave her a heads up on whatever ridicule she was about to endure. Better to know why the school was glaring at you, then not.
As she waited for a smart-alec response Astrid thought about how it was so unfair that she would have to set the world straight again while Diana continued with her glamourous life. A slight envy entered the pit of her stomach. Diana never dealt with any consequences. And Astrid faced them everyday. How annoying. With this realization, a sour look crossed her face.

She smiled, a little maliciously, as Astrid threw her head back and laughed. Who even laughed like that, anyway? She was conveniently forgetting her own laughter - which was loud, obnoxious, and generally ill-timed, just as calculated to get attention. Today, however, she was going with more sarcasm than laughter, especially since she was still a little mad. "Ha. Ha. Ha." she said, pointedly. She looked around. "A fair bit are cute, I agree." She lowered her voice slightly, in a teasing whisper that was still sure to be heard. "How much do you wanna bet I can have any one of these little poor boys in my room tonight?" A few more heads turned her way, and she grinned. They were such an innocent crowd out there, it was actually pathetic.
She was feeling hot, actually - despite the fact that it was a moderately chilly day, so she slipped back into the water. She had to admit, part of the reason was to show off her swimming to Astrid, and to anyone else in the crowd who hadnt seen it the first time. Of course, Astrid had probably seen her swim before, but she delighted in skimming in and out of the water in the small little pool. She wished it was bigger though. And warmer. As the day deepened into the night, the pool seemed smaller and like someone had added a few blocks of ice into it. She poked her head out again, and as she had expected, Astrid was talking again. Her statement made her laugh.
"I take that as meaning that you did not find anyone who'd take pity on you and sleep with you?" she asked, equal parts insult and teasing. She had not liked the barbed insult, not one bit, and she'd take revenge. She sometimes wondered why anyone slept with Astrid anyway - what was the fun in sleeping with someone who didnt have an ounce of flesh on their body and didnt even have a smidge of creativity? Still, she was wondering if there was anyone that Astrid had really found - despite her comment she was not all that sure that Astrid hadnt found someone - while most boys preferred to not go beyond kissing Diana unless she put a fair bit of effort into them, Astrid could generally find someone to sleep with her in a few minute. "But try to be honest, have you got a new...toy? Or rather...a new boy?" She knew well enough that Astrid played around with everyone and never got serious - after all, wasnt she the same. Commitment made her retch.
Her next words made Diana put up a mock innocent expression that she was very, very good at - big wide open innocent eyes, pouty face - it worked like a charm on the guys. She didnt think it'd work on Astrid, but then she didnt want it to. "Girls like me? Oh Astrid, you wound me," she said, drama queen that she was. She paused a moment, and then laughed. "But I did hear some people say something about you and the potions professor...and you that hufflepuff girl, what is her name?" She paused another moment. "Oh and you and the giant squid, but I thought that would be a little difficult, I mean biologically you know." Her words implied that she believed the others (though she did not) and that she believed that Astrid would sleep even with a giant squid if it was possible to - which she might even have believed. She had no idea why Astrid behaved that way, but she suspected she liked attention as much as Diana. Both the reason they were friends and the reason that they fought.
She swam closer to the shore. "You know that very expensive Turin Poster bag that you're almost standing on? Thats mine," she informed Astrid. Her red handbag had a very popular wizarding brand name that she delighted as throwing at Astrid. "Do me a favor, doll, open it and hand over the brown pouch. If you're going to fight with me I could use some candy as sour as your face has just become." She grinned, Diana was fond of candy, and she hadnt yet finished her weekly rationing. "Maybe you should have a piece or two too. Help you look a little more alive," she said, as she neared the shore. "People do prefer to sleep with girls who dont look like they just rose up from the dead, you know." Well, she'd always thought so, though people did not often confirm her views, which always puzzled her immensely.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) "Ha. Ha. Ha. A fair bit are cute, I agree. How much do you wanna bet I can have any one of these little poor boys in my room tonight?".
The comment processed in the back of Astrid's mind as a threat, although the reasonable part of her mind believed Diana didn't have the guts to get one of those boys in her bed. Tease them about it sure, but actually follow through? Never. Which is why Astrid ignored Diana, and focused on how much fun she would be having that night with one of those lucky guys, so unlike Diana. Maybe Di didn't understand that flirting is amusing, but the skin to skin interaction was the real fun. But it was her loss and most definitely Astrid's gain.
As Astrid starred at the beautiful scenery of soaking boys with lingering eyes, Diana ruined her picture. Of course, always wanting to be the center of attention the girl had taken a dive. Her mind muttered some filthy comment that she would have said out loud, but didn't want to scream it so that it's victim could hear. She quickly focused somewhere else and began talking mostly to herself again, although the insult still sounded razor sharp on her tongue. It was only when Diana's narcissistic laugh pierced the air did she realize that no one but the crowd had been listening. This crowd had quickly realized that one of the Slytherin goddesses were among them and began to slowly back away, as if this was something that was meant to be watched from afar. "Look who's chasing them away now," she whispered to herself.
"I take that as meaning that you did not find anyone who'd take pity on you and sleep with you?". Although the answer was yes, no one had slept with her on this day, Astrid decided that answering this question straight out would only ruin the fun. "But try to be honest, have you got a new...toy? Or rather...a new boy?" Oh how she wanted to laugh at the next question, she could feel how much Diana wanted to know the answer and how much she wanted the answer to be no. But why should she be honest with her? When Diana was so obviously not a completely honest person, ever. And it wasn't like this would change, she did not trust Diana with her devious gossiping ways. "Honesty Diana? I didn't know that was in your vocabulary. And I believe you can go without knowing one more thing about me."
I definitely don't know as much as you anyways, her mind continued implying the gossip circling every person in every year and every house. "Girls like me? Oh Astrid, you wound me." Although Astrid couldn't tell if this was sarcasm or if it was a different performance she only rolled her eyes and watched the show. "But I did hear some people say something about you and the potions professor...and you that hufflepuff girl, what is her name?" How contradicting, obviously Diana wasn't a very good actress. Oh so suddenly deciding to spill the beans on these rumors. Astrid had previously heard about her and the potions professor and it didn't bother her very much, the Hufflepuff bothered her even less. "Oh and you and the giant squid, but I thought that would be a little difficult, I mean biologically you know." The giant squid on the other hand was only thought provoking and irritating, she found it hard enough hearing about her sleeping with every person in town but now she had to deal with beastiality too?
"Ha.Ha.Ha" She spoke her laugh, with the intention of mocking her friend's earlier words. Of course, she hoped that the students at Hogwarts weren't dumb enough to believe that last remark, as any sane person would. But would it really be a new level in her terrible reputation? Not entirely, it was just the same thing that was always being talked about twisted a little. Diana came closer to the shore and said, "You know that very expensive Turin Poster bag that you're almost standing on? Thats mine" . If Astrid cared enough about designer bags or whatever brand had just been spat at her she may have moved. But the last season bag was a very comfortable couch pillow and after all that Diana put her through she owed her.
Do me a favor, doll, open it and hand over the brown pouch. If you're going to fight with me I could use some candy as sour as your face has just become." Reluctantly, she pulled the bag roughly out from under her and quickly found the desired brown pouch. "Be careful dear, it will sweeten up your face but if you gain any more curves you'll never get a date". She paused dramatically and then added, "Well maybe the giant squid will take you." Although she found herself quite clever, Diana was obviously still absorbed in her own wit, "Maybe you should have a piece or two too. Help you look a little more alive," she said, still nearing the shore. "People do prefer to sleep with girls who don't look like they just rose up from the dead, you know."
Rolling her eyes for the second time Astrid defended herself. "I believe I get more boys then you, In fact it's all over the school. People love me, and they love talking about me. I believe it's one of your favorite hobbies." Diana was almost at the shore now, but Astrid was feeling much more confident. She stood up to meet the girl and took a couple steps toward her. The two stood only a few feet away, looking at each both with insults at hand. It was no wonder why the crowd began to follow up to the shore.

The thing about Diana was that she was impulsive and often did things without rhyme or reason. She was also quite moody and different external preconditions tended to affect her mood in positive ways to a very large extent - the sound of the waterfall and swimming in the cold had already calmed her down to a large extent (she'd been very angry when she'd first fought with Astrid, but even the gossiping maliciously had helped, and by the time she was out she wasn't even particularly angry on Astrid. And then once she'd come and Diana had had the chance to tease her some more, Diana didnt even feel particularly angry at Astrid (though Astrid, as far as Diana could tell, hadn't reached that stage yet) - and thus she was quite willing to make amends by this point.
She climbed out of the water, stretched out on shore to dry off, and grabbed the brown bag from Astrid. She pulled out a gummy worm and ate it as provocatively as she could manage to, though she'd noticed that the crowd had moved a little further away. What had Astrid been doing to scare everyone away? She did not, of course, consider that it was her - after all, she was soaking wet in a skin tight and practically transparent top, and she was sure that the male part of the audience would be more than willing to get as close as she wanted them to. By this time she'd finished her gummy worm and pulled out another sour candy that made her face pucker up but her mood brighten. After not eating any for nearly the first 14 years of her life, she'd become a little bit of an addict.
She dangled the bag in front of Astrid, knowing though that she wouldnt take it. "Oh go on, take a sugar free quill," she said with a grin. "No one will notice the rolls of fat around your stomach and your behind." That was of course a lie, but said loud enough for the sake of the audience around. Not that anyone was likely to believe her, Astrid looked too bloody good in those shorts. As dry as a stick, of course. "Actually, it might be good if you had a behind. But I believe you lost it the last time you were vomiting down the 2nd floor toilet." This was a pointed reference to an eating disorder that Diana had always suspected Astrid of having (mostly because she was jealous) but had never actually found a conformation for.
She laughed. "You think I'm fat? Go tell most of the guys in the school, but they probably are too busy looking at these to give you the time of a day," she said, with a pointed reference to her clingy top. It was true that Diana didnt get even half as much action as Astrid (and was still called a slut, but then how would anyone who wasnt close to her know? she made sure to inflate the figures). Most of the reason for this lack of action was not, she suspected, the way she looked (enough people seemed to want her, after all) but the fact that she either lost interest or didnt want to get into it fully. She didnt like being vulnerable, and it took her a long time to get over that and actually end up sleeping with a guy. Unless he was very, very hot of course - like some guys she could name.
"I believe I get more boys then you, In fact it's all over the school. People love me, and they love talking about me. I believe it's one of your favorite hobbies."
"My my, but aren't we getting a little self-obsessed?" she said with a grin. "Just because someone made up a rumor with you and the giant squid, doesn't mean I talk about you all that much. I'm just trying to keep you in the loop, like a good best friend." She grinned, but she was jealous too, because wasn't all this true? "I just hear about you once in a while, usually from the female part of the school because you've generally slept with their boyfriends, but thats about it." She'd ignored a barbed comment by Astrid earlier (because people bringing up her lies did not sit well with Diana, though she'd find a way to make Astrid shut up sooner or later - once she had some dirt on her that was bad enough) but she was now again curious about whether Astrid had someone new on her list. Could she be the reason that gryffindor wasn't giving her the time of day? She better not be. Diana had her own nasty tricks to people standing in her way.
"You dont think I'm honest? Tell me who the latest boy is and I'll tell you who I spent last night with. I promise, its delicious." Ha, but for once she actually had something to tell, so that helped. It had ended awfully, of course, but that was not something she'd tell Astrid. She could always claim that she had dumped the guy instead. She didnt think Liam would have told anyone that he'd caught her in a lie - he was too much of an introvert. She should never have gone out with anyone that smart, she should've known he'd catch on, but of course it was much too late now too change that. She'd just have to deal with the mess.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) Astrid knew that she was now the one who was definitely not over it. Although she doubted Diana had completely dropped it, the girl was obviously ready to move on. Astrid was not sure that she was going to agree. She halfheartedly took the sugary treat from Diana and popped it in her mouth. With that, a little mental note was taken to stricken the diet. She didn't want that extra piece of candy to catch up with her. It was probably the first one she had had in a long while. And although she was thinking unpleasant thoughts while she sucked it's deliciousness out of it, it was still delicious. For a second, she had to enjoy it. If she was going to take in the calories, she might as well.
In fact, the sour taste had almost distracted her from Diana's comment implying that she had an eating disorder. She wondered what stupidly crazy things were going through the girl's head now. There was no need to make up such ridiculous things when it was obvious that the fight was over. Astrid decided to pretend she hadn't heard that comment. It felt like she ignored so much of the stupid things that Diana did to her so that they could get along. And the second floor toilet? Like she would ever even consider using that thing. Never in a million years would she puke in that thing, do you know how many germs are in those stalls?
She refocused on Diana, shifted her weight, and moved her hands to her hips. "You think I'm fat? Go tell most of the guys in the school, but they probably are too busy looking at these to give you the time of a day," Diana was ranting about her curves again. Probably to give herself some confidence boast. Although Diana was undeniably beautiful she still seemed to need to prove it to herself time and time again. Astrid felt that Diana's most likely rhetorical question deserved a smart alec answer. "Well, only when I'm not next to you. Don't worry the Black fortune can afford to get that fixed." Luckily the Elkjaer fortune needed not to be spent on such silly things.
Another witty comment spat from Astrid's mouth and quickly Diana found a loop hole. She confidently let herself talk, something about keeping her in the loop. Being a good best friend. And of course the monstrous giant squid came up again. She wondered if Diana spent her free time coming up with these stupid rumors. And when the hell did she ever say that she wanted to be in the loop? Wasn't it obvious that she liked her operation on the down low? Apparently not. Astrid was about to say something about not really enjoying the gossip about her, but Diana cut off her thoughts.
She was asking, no pleading for Astrid to tell her who she had been sleeping with earlier that day. Astrid's imitate thought was that Diana must have been believing some of her own gossip. Although she slept with boys often, she could survive an afternoon without them. And in this case, she had. But at the moment she felt a brief wind of power, seeing her best friend squirm in her seat was amazing. Diana must not have known Astrid that well, for offering a piece of gossip would never work. Astrid was not interested in what Diana was doing last night. In fact, she couldn't care less. But now she wondering how she was going to get out of this stick situation.
"Oh look who'd like to know." She watched as a few people from the crowd moved around, her eyes looking for anything to look at but Diana. "Let's just say he wasn't really a student." Oh gosh, she had done it this time. Making up stuff about herself? That's appalling. "He works down in Hogsmeade or maybe he was just passing through. I really couldn't care less". Astrid slowly returned her gaze to Diana, she hadn't wanted to be a total letdown. But now she was wondering if Diana was hoping to hear the opposite answer. Although this wasn't really her problem at all, she was still a tad nervous about where this was going. She hoped no details would be asked for. She would have enough experience to make some up and all, but she just knew this would be all over school the next time the two of them were fighting.

She watched, a little bit shocked, as Astrid took a piece of her most favorite, most sour candy. She was mostly surprised that she ate it at all, Astrid was of those slytherin girls who skipped dessert at dinner (actually, Diana was too, but mostly because she hated chocolate and most traditional desserts - she'd rather go up and indulge in more candy) - and she was surely the kind who worried about how fat or otherwise she was getting. Why else would she comment on Diana's curves all the time? Unless she was jealous, of course, and trying to get the same. The thought made Diana smirk to herself. This kind of beauty wasn't easy to get unless it was natural.
She wondered who she'd gotten it from. Her father had been a lout (somewhat handsome, but he hadn't even had blue eyes), her mother as she'd seen her was mousy and had brown hair, her grandfather was old and white-haired and wrinkly. She supposed it had to be her grandmother, whoever she was - her grandfather hadn't had much discretion with women, but at least he was quite good at picking the pretty ones. She'd been lost in these thoughts, when she finished her sugar quill and reached up again for one of the sweets, and picked out something extremely high in calories and fat, but then - Diana did not count calories and it was extremely delicious.
"Well, only when I'm not next to you. Don't worry the Black fortune can afford to get that fixed."
She dropped the piece of candy back into the pouch. She was done for the day, Astrid had killed her mood for candy eating, because even if Diana did not admit it, she was actually very afraid of getting fat and unattractive, because if she wasn't pretty then she had no identity, no way of grabbing eyes. Perhaps she should follow Cassandra's advice and find herself some rich guy to marry. The thought filled her with distate - more because of the commitment part rather than for any moral reason. "Right. My considerable family fortune could have fixed anything. Too bad I'm naturally flawless." She paused, and then retaliated because Astrid had just hit her below the belt and she didn't like it. Besides, people had been listening.
"Though darling, I don't think your fortune is low enough for you to have gotten your nose job done as cheaply as it seems to have been done." Now, she did not know if Astrid had had a nose job done or how well done it was, but it seemed like a good thing to throw out. Especially since in the wizarding world it was considerably easier to fix the position of your nose, and a botched job meant you either tried to do it yourself (and failed) or went to a complete novice (who also failed) which was almost a double insult. Probably especially for Astrid, who she was sure would not want to reveal any enhancements done to her beauty. Diana knew she wouldn't have wanted to.
She reached for handbag, which Astrid had squashed abysmally and pulled out a tiny hand mirror in which to examine herself as Astrid talked in the background about the latest boy. Though when she came to part where she said he was not in the school, she actually looked up from her reflection, a rare thing for the otherwise extremely vain Diana. "Out of school? Ha. That's not bad. Was he good? Do you have a name? I'm pretty sure you don't know the last name, but at least a first?" She paused, then frowned as something new struck her. "How old was he!?" Diana loved delicious gossip of this sort.
She shrugged, and then remembered her promise, which she wasn't really very upset about keeping anyway, because she wanted Astrid to know. Unfortunately she'd probably keep it to herself, but then, Diana had different people for spreading gossip and different people from keeping secrets. "Guess who mine was. Liam. The ravenclaw. Hot, huh?" She thought Astrid would probably appreciate that - the boy practically exuded dark, mysterious, dangerous, rebellious and absolutely sexy. And also not believer in commitment, a plus for Diana.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) Sometimes, the amount of self obsession that Diana expressed was annoying. Wait that was all the time. Although it was true that she had just insulted her and maybe in some way her family. Because honestly what else would you spend the Black family fortune on? Maybe clothes. She never thought about her own fortune because knowing her parents it would all go to her brothers. And she would be forced to get a rich husband fast or be left on the streets. These thoughts, she quickly dismissed because they were sort of stressful and she obviously didn't do that. In fact she never thought about her future. Leif would probably let her move in with him until she found a husband or god forbid, a job.
Diana went on about the apparent nose job she had gotten. Although her nose obviously was natural, and probably on the top five list of her best features, it was not and would never be fake. This was the first time she had ever heard such a thing suggested, so naturally she looked up puzzled and said, "My nose? My goodness darling, after all the time you've spent in that office with your breast implants i'd assume you knew a fake nose when you saw one." Astrid made a motion with her hand to her friend's large knockers, obviously soaking wet and attracting attention. With the crowd listening to every word they said, she wondered if this was going to start another fight. But this was all the more reason not to back down. "This obviously isn't fake," she continued.
Diana began to look at herself in a hand mirror, which Astrid automatically wished she could borrow. Mostly so that she could look at the state of her nose, it did look alright didn't it? But she pushed this wish to the side because at the moment she wasn't going to be asking Diana for a favor. The topic switched back to who Astrid had been 'sleeping' with. But not really, since that was obviously made up. Then the questions hit, like a storm Diana was instantly interested. And there was a good reason to be, it was actually pretty good gossip if you were into that kind of thing. But now Astrid was stuck with a new dilemma; the art of lying.
Of course, she was rather good at this. Keeping her lies straight and all that came naturally. She lazily answered the first question presented, "He was alright, I mean nothing special. But I think I may grow to like these experienced boys. You know?" She made sure to act nonchalant while the words rolled off her tongue, and then thought for a second before continuing her story. "Umm his name, I think it was something with a B and it started with a vowel." She giggled slightly to herself, obviously she couldn't give away a name. Details like that were just the thing to uncover her dishonesty.
She saw a frown cross Diana's face just before she asked for an age. This was an entirely new decision altogether. After all, it changed the entire perspective of hooking up with an adult. Was he 30 with a wife? Or just out of Hogwarts looking for a job? She assumed she could get away with only an estimate because she obviously asked very few questions before letting a boy have her. She decided and announced, "late twenties, early thirties." It was a safe bet because it was doubtful they would remember him from Hogwarts years but he also wasn't old enough to be considered gross. She hoped Diana wouldn't ask for any more details because honestly this was about the point she was willing to give out.
Until Diana mentioned it again, Astrid had forgotten about Diana's side of the bargain. She of course had been giving away information for an entirely different reason so she didn't particularly care. But she supposed she should pretend to do so. Quickly, Astrid searched her brain for whoever this Liam in Ravenclaw was. Only after a few seconds did she remember the dark haired sixth year. He had probably been in a couple of her classes but she didn't really pay attention in there. She wondered if she had ever had a thing with him, it wasn't unlikely. He was definitely the type of dark pathetic soul she would love to seek love from. After all he seemed like easy pickings, right? And on top of that, he was pretty cute. She wouldn't say hot, but maybe that was just because hot was something she reserved for men with sexy bodies not boys with a mysterious haircut. "Very nice, I assume? Did he teach you anything new Diana?" A teasing voice came out, mostly because she couldn't believe Diana was describing the Ravenclaw in such amazing light. She never thought he was that great but apparently her friend did.

The Black Family fortune. That had been an interesting term to use, especially because she had no family left. No family she cared for, at least. It was a testament to Diana's extreme self-interest when you realized that she knew she had about 7 or 8 siblings and parents living in total squalor while she had enough money to last, as her grandfather's lawyer put it, seven generations (though at the rate Diana spent it she was not likely to have a cent to leave her children - not that she planned on having any children). And she hadn't thought even once of actually sending over some money to her parents. But of course, Astrid did not know any of this. The official story that Astrid knew was that her father was in the ministry and she had a mother and a sister. She'd considered sharing some more 'secrets' with her. Maybe once they were alone tonight.
She grinned when she saw Astrid's reaction to her nose statement from the corner of her eyes (her eyes themselves were too busy assessing herself in the mirror) - she knew that Astrid was quite proud of her nose. The statement about her breasts, well, that was an affront to Diana, who had always maintained that she'd never had a wand touch her body - and she hadn't. For once she wasn't lying, but who would believe her when she looked this good? She sighed. "You're just jealous that you haven't got anything to match, sweetheart," she said, narrowing her eyes at herself in the mirror. "I've always had enough assets to make them hard to enhance without making it difficult for me to walk," she said after a bit. "And I couldn't take the risk of it turning out to be like your nose, dear. I do hope to get married someday." Her voice had turned somewhat cold, Astrid was making her angry and she had no problem showing that. The statement on the marriage was mostly a lie, but she didn't think it was one Astrid would see through.
She let go off the anger when the discussion on this interesting guy started, however. Had Astrid really found herself an older guy? Now that was quite an interesting fact. "Ooh, experienced, was he?" she said, biting her lip but sounding excited enough. She closed the mirror with a snap after one last look. Damn, but wasn't she beautiful? "Wasn't married, was he?" She shrugged. "Well, knowing you, you probably don't know. Sure this isn't some of your daddy issues coming to the surface?" She didn't actually know that much about Astrid's family situation, because Astrid was close-lipped about it, but she thought that now was an excellent time to be teasing her about it anyway.
A B and a vowel, well. "Was he Abernathy? The guy who works at Hog's head? He's a friend of mine." A friend, well, the one who supplied her with drinks, but she'd always thought of him as somewhat ugly, but then, Astrid had dubious taste anyway. A little alcohol was probably enough to make her fall for the so-called 'experienced' guy, even if he was a geek with glasses and open pores and a wheezing voice. She had an interesting moment picturing Abernathy with Astrid, and then grinned and turned back to her. She slipped the mirror into the purse, then looked at the brown pouch, which now lay rejected, and turned it with a mocking smile to Astrid. "There, want one last piece? I'm gonna put it back in, this might be your last chance to look like you've actually eaten in the past week."
And then the conversation turned to Liam. Astrid's question made her laugh, not her entire sincere tinkling laugh but an acceptable one nonetheless. It was loud enough for a few more people to look at the two girls again, but Diana was a little disappointed to see that most of them had backed off and started talking among themselves again. She still blamed it on Astrid. "Did he teach me something new?" she asked with a grin. "Wouldn't you like to know." She winked. "Thats the thing with these rebellious types, they never want to go down the beaten path." A few more people looked back at the girls at this extremely suggestively said statement, and Diana smiled like a cat in cream, leaning back and letting her left hand (which was on the sand) take her weight.

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) With the attention turned to Astrid's flat chest, she instantly became self conscience again. It was true that once in a while she would get a comment about how it wasn't her best asset. And the horny boys that loved chasing her didn't really like that. In fact, it was probably the worst thing about her. Although she made up for it in other ways, she had to admit to herself that Diana looked great in the small amount of clothing that she wore. And although this usually didn't get to her, with all the talk about their bodies it was.
Diana's cold voice shot like bullets as she mentioned her want to get married. Of course, Astrid found this statement absolutely ridiculous and a tad bit funny. Without thinking she blurted out, "You married? Who would ever want to marry you? You've never even kept a boyfriend for more than a week." It was done on impulse, and followed by an annoying laugh that made Astrid's shoulders shake. She quickly let it go, as she saw Diana do. They were talking about her little hook up with an older man. Diana suggested this man was married, which Astrid knew she wouldn't have asked if this had all actually happened. Bringing up marriage would have just ruined the mood, wouldn't it?
Astrid would have asked about the daddy issues comment, but she really just didn't like thinking about her father. Plus, she was beginning to figure out that Diana was just making up random things to keep the conversation moving and herself with the upper hand. Astrid found this rather annoying. In fact, after the gears in her head began turning she decided to give her friend a little taste of her own medicine. Which by the by would not be tasting very good. Before she could do so, Diana continued asking if it was some man named Abernathy. She had never heard of Abernathy but he sounded like one of those old drunks who spent all their time hanging around at the same old pub, just waiting to die.
Naturally, she said "No, not Abernathy. I don't think he was married, but like I would know." Diana turned to her purse and with the spare moment Astrid thought about what her mystery man should look like. A scruffy man, with animalistic qualities and bad body odor came to mind. She decided the image was realistic and with the right amount of perfume and tolerance could be sexy. Although Diana's high maintenance attitude would never approve, which was actually good because she didn't want to have to bring this up after this conversation. Much less be asked to point him out at The Three Broomsticks.
Another piece of candy was offered, which Astrid waved away. The last piece was still burning in the back of her throat. And she wanted the next piece, but that was exactly why she said no. Going down that road was exactly the last thing she needed. And with that Diana began talking about Liam the Ravenclaw again. Although she did not explain why she held him so highly, she did go along with Astrid's teasing. This was something Astrid was grateful for, as Diana usually had more wit than her. In fact, it was not unlikely that if they did have another fight Astrid would be the one to go back to Diana at the end of it all. Getting into all that trouble was much more amusing when she had a friend who semi-understood why it was happening by her side.
Astrid thought about the boy Liam, briefly remembering a couple of key facts that had stayed in her head. "You're right, they'd rather have the innocent ones. Did he teach you where everything goes? I know sometimes it's hard for you to process it all." Making up her best friend's innocence felt weird on her tongue. It definitely wasn't her style. She would usually be defending herself in a much different way. But the usage of complete lies was also relieving and she wondered if this was how Diana felt all the time. Of course, her witty remark wasn't nearly as good as Diana's but the girl had had a lot more practice and Astrid was just getting started.

"You married? Who would ever want to marry you? You've never even kept a boyfriend for more than a week."
She acted like that didn't hurt, but somehow it did. More than it should have, considering she didn't even WANT to get married. But Astrid was right, nobody would ever commit to her even when she wanted to, if that day ever came. Well, her response to uncomfortable situations, or situations she did not like, was to avoid it, and to lie. Which was exactly what she did right here. "Of course I have," she said calmly. "Just can't find anyone at Hogwarts that is worth that kind of time commitment." She bit her lip. "When I was at Salem, well, the quality of guys was much, much better." Boasting about her old school was one of her favorite things, especially because no one knew she'd been a social reject at Durmstrang and most people knew only the outside story - that she was the most desired girl in Salem Academy - a school for the rich, famous and aristocratic. Ah, but she was glad she was in Hogwarts now.
"And anyway, when my family tries to arrange my marriage, as yours is undoubtedly going to try for you, too," she continued. "They might have less of a hard time finding a guy for me rather than for the girl who's slept with everyone at Hogwarts, including the giant squid. At least I have some standards." But she didn't, not really. It was a well-known fact that she'd flirt with any male - hot or otherwise, pureblood or not, slytherin or not - actually, well, she didn't have that much choice because she'd either dated or fought with practically everyone in her house and of her blood status. It was possible to easily hate or love Diana, not as easy to ignore her. And nothing irritated her more, either. "And I'm beautiful and easy to like, too, but thats quite another matter."
Not that she was. Even she did not consider herself beautiful, her nose was too big and her features weren't perfect. She was hot if not considered big, but she'd never actually been beautiful. She took a strand of her golden hair and wrapped her finger around it, playing with it. She loved her hair. That was beautiful, even if nothing else about her was perfect. And she made sure she used to best of everything to keep it that way, too. While she'd been thinking about her hair, Astrid had been telling her that it hadn't been Abernathy, which was not that big a surprise. Though she was sure Astrid didn't know the name.
"Well, whatever, but what did he look like? Hot? Handsome? If you picked him at Hogsmeade he can't be terribly rich or whatever, but I guess it'd do for a one-night stand." Diana herself tended to gravitate to rich, successful, famous, popular or extremely good looking people - people she imagined were like her. Of course, she could lower those standards once in a while, for a particularly cute specimen like that hufflepuff with the nosy girlfriend, but she tried not to most of the time. It would never do to be known for being the same as Astrid - something that Diana objected to more than actually being known as the Hogwarts whore, which she knew she'd been called at one time.
She'd been leaning back, lazily processing Astrid's statement about Liam, and it took a moment for it to sink in. When it did, however, she lifted herself up and gave Astrid a perfect and somewhat over-dramatized, 'you-must-be-kidding-me' look. She even raised one eyebrow, a trick she'd picked up a few years ago when she'd spent too long staring at herself in the mirror and not liking what she saw. "Oh Astrid, darling, you really need to stop being so self-obsessed that you don't know something this simple about your BEST FRIEND." She gave her a mock-hurt look. "You must know I know loads of places 'everything' goes, since a very, very long time." The lie infuriated her but it also confused her. Wasn't that her domain?

THE TRUTH COMES OUT IN THE BREAKDOWNS( • M E M O R I E S M Y G O D T H E S E M E M O R I E S • ) Astrid watched as Diana said something about Hogwart's poor variety of boys. Which was totally untrue. She also picked up something about commitment, which she wished she could laugh at but something told her Diana was already hurt. And although she was a nasty girl at times, she was still teasing with her best friend and although she didn't mean to much to her, she didn't want to be eating alone in the morning. Of course, practically exaggerated was the phrase, when I was at Salem. Astrid didn't quite care for the school's reputation. They sounded like a bunch of stuck up bitches, and she didn't know what it would be like with so much competition. But everything she knew about it was from Diana, so it was possible everything was exaggerated.
Diana continued, talking about the inevitable arranged marriages they would receive. It was something Astrid was not looking forward to, one man for the rest of her life and no other choice but birthing out children for a living. But she had to continue the pureblood line. She was not worried about finding a boy to marry her, her parents lived a couple countries away and didn't talk to the English pureblood families Diana was referring to. She often wondered if the reason they sent her so far away was so that she wouldn't ruin her own chances with the boys. These boys of course went to Durmstrang, as that is where most children from Denmark went. She decided it would be best to announce this to Diana with a subtle, "Oh I won't be marrying an English boy, my parents are very respectable in Denmark. I assumed I would have told you about the Elkjaer's high stasis there before. Anyway, the boys there are simply delicious and I will be snatching one of them up."
Next on her to do list was describing her one night stand to her best friend. It would be a terrible mistake to say that Astrid had never lied before. But it would be plain silly to say that she practiced every day and was absolutely fantastic at it. She wasn't and she didn't and now she was improvising. But this time she had been prepared with an image rolling around in her head. "He was scruffy, unshaven and muscular," she began with a fake thoughtfulness. "Rather hairy though." Her comments were right on cue, she could almost see the memory forming in her head. "I doubt you would approve." She winked at her best friend, as if this non approval backed up her earlier innocent comment.
This innocent comment, of course was a total lie. She knew Diana to be quite the devious woman and never in a million years would she call her innocent, if she was not teasing or picking at her or lying all together. But she had to admit, if her best friend could hold her tongue for two minutes she wouldn't be able to pass as a fairly innocent girl, something in the womanly shape of her body and the amount of make-up she wore just shouted out the truth for everyone to hear. She hoped her own appearance was not shouting out the truth now. Although, she doubted it would betray her at a time like this when she had always survived without a scratch before.
It seemed that Diana was telling her often how into herself she was. It was a small note she took in the back of her brain. Maybe it was just an overly used piece of teasing but it seemed a lousy way to get her attention, why not comment on her poor sense of foreign style? Or just continue on one of the other many successful roads she had in the past. Astrid suspected it was because Diana was trying to take away from the fact that she was the self-obsessed one. Diana informed Astrid that she was definitely not innocent and Astrid wanted to respond by calling the girl, her best friend a total slut. But she knew the response could be solved with a simple, look who's talking so she decided on something a little wittier. "Yes, I'm sorry. I remember now, you seem to rub your experience in boy's faces quite often. I just assumed that was your version of flirting."

Marriage was not something Diana had planned. Unlike her earlier boast of her parents finding a marriage for her, well, that was terribly unlikely. And she was not likely to find anyone, in this school or any other, who was willing to live the kind of life she would want to live even after getting married. And if well, she had to marry someone or the other to fit in with her school friends after they left school - she'd invented her whole family before and she could do it again. It wouldn't be all that hard. Enough money (she was independent, unlike Astrid, whose wealth was mostly controlled by her parents and would mostly go to her brothers) and enough experience in lying and making people believe that she had the perfect life. She imagined it would be just as easy to do (or perhaps easier) after she was out of school and its restrictions.
Astrid brought up Denmark. Well, that was calculated to perhaps make Diana feel jealous, but it didn't. It actually made her pity Astrid a little bit. She didn't really have the choices that Diana had. She'd be tied down and restrained. Diana would never be caged like that - she already knew she'd travel a lot, explore, move, not stay caged up. Of course, Diana couldn't really tell Astrid that, so she shrugged and said, "Ah, well, then I'm sure they can find you someone who hasn't heard of your past. Or is willing to look past it. Or pay someone to do that, with that fortune of yours you mentioned." She grinned at this point, but it was slightly more unkind than actually full of humor. "But what happens when you see another fine specimen from Denmark walking in front of your front door, and you are, dare I say - tempted? I believe it isn't that hard for that to happen, darling."
She laughed lightly at the description of the man Astrid presented. "Well, case in point. The guy sounds like the kind of lout you'd laugh at for wasting away his life at Hog's Head. But I digress. Doesn't seem like my kind of guy at all, to be honest." She much preferred the clean shaven guys, the innocent looking ones - like her recent gryffindor crush. She wondered if she'd told Astrid about that, she had certainly told Cassandra. But she didn't remember. Diana sometimes had a hard time knowing what she had and hadn't told certain people - and which lies she had and hadn't told them, which was the root cause of most of her troubles. She refused to believe it was the lying itself. No, it was just the inability to keep them straight that caused trouble for her.
That was what had caused all the trouble with Liam, too. Otherwise she'd quite liked him, just as much as she'd liked any other guy. And she thought she'd be able to talk her way out of the stupid lie (why had she tried to get his sympathy? he thought she was hot enough without that - and quite honestly, who wouldn't?) but he'd become angry, and aggressive, reacting in a way she hadn't expected him to react. Plus, she'd been a little vulnerable, too. She always was, just after - and that was what she tried to avoid most of the time, the reason that she'd go crazy if she slept around as much as Astrid did, or seemed to.
She had been lost in this reflection when all of a sudden Astrid was talking again. The girl and her pathetic comebacks! Diana thought she was better than her, at least, though sometimes she got a little lame. But whatever. Anything was better than spending the night all alone getting bored and doing NOTHING - which seemed to be the plan for today. That was, she told herself, the only reason why she was listening to Astrid's crap at all. The only reason why she hadn't fallen asleep yet, though she was tired and hadn't slept much all night and she was getting bored with the whole conversation and the pointless fighting.
