"Well, it'd probably be interesting to have classes in the night," she said with a thoughtful glance. She was more of a night person - though she suspected she might start to hate even nights if they actually had classes there instead of the kind of stuff she enjoyed. "Nah, it'd probably just cut into partying time," she observed, even though she could not remember seeing Cassandra at any of the parties she'd attended - most of which were illegal and ran till way too late in the night, and which she usually ended with a drunken night out and an awful hangover. It was a good thing that she didnt tend to get too awfully drunk, or she might have had a hard time keeping her secrets. "Are you planning to attend the party in the common room this weekend? It's supposed to be fabulous."
And then Cassandra was back to CLASSES again. She rolled her eyes and took a piece of candy. "Changed some bird into a guinea pig...missed that class. The second one was okay, making arrows shoot out of your wand, dont see how that's transfiguration but whatever." She did not admit that she'd actually enjoyed the class, or the feeling of achievement when she realized she was actually good at it. Instead, she sounded extremely bored and unexcited for class, as always. "What classes are you taking?" she asked, trying to feign an interest in Cassandra. Apparently people enjoyed it when you did that, and Diana could infuse enough enthusiasm into her voice to make it sound believably interested, even if it seemed like a sudden shift from her earlier "I-dont-give-a-damn" voice.
Her next comment, though, was on a topic much closer to Diana's heart. "Well, I dont see why it should be so hard for you to find some interested in you." She shrugged. "I find it almost strange you havent had a few boyfriends already. There hasnt been even one?" A bit of a lie, but probably not enough hyperbole to make it sound like too much flattery. "Have you seen the kind of girls people fall for?" She grinned slightly, thinking of the hufflepuff she'd been talking to a few days ago...well, that had certainly been a puzzling case for her to handle. The guy had been politely disinterested while at the same time, well, nice. Which infuriated her. Because you could love Diana, and you could hate Diana and it wouldn't make her even blink twice, but ignoring her - well, that was something that she couldn't deal with easily.
Her reflections were broken when she'd noticed the books, but she basically skipped over Cassandra's explanation of the first book, more interested in the muggle book. Cassandra Lynn Murphy, who she had never, ever seen without a book that was either a wizarding classic or an academic book - reading books written by the very people she'd been abusing a few minutes ago? Her explanation was...well, Diana couldnt see anything wrong with it, and yet she felt like there was something wrong with it. She narrowed her eyes for a brief millisecond before reaching for another piece of candy as she had originally been planning to and not refuting Cassandra's statement. Something was up with the girl, and Diana would find out - but for now she did not want her to close up so she steered the conversation to safer waters. "So what does your father do, Cassandra?" she asked, sounding a lot more normal than she had a moment or two ago.

Of course Cassandra had heard of the party in the common room that was coming up, She watched the guys make sound barrier spells so other people would not hear. "Yeah I was planning on going. It sounds like a lot of fun." She commented. She figured that since it was in the common room there was no need to try and exscape. Plus she needed to relax and this was going to help her. She figured that everyone from the house would be there as well.
But then she heard Diana's tone of voice about classes. It was hard to talk about anything else since they were all trapped at the castle until the end of term. Classes was just an easy subject to talk about when you had nothing else to say. She assumed that her and Diana did not share the same taste in anything, but they could always talk about men since Diana liked them. Or they could talk about the latest wizard movie since the last thing she was going to do was talk about muggle movies. "yeah I am just taking the normal classes. Let talk about something else though since classes are over for the day." She said and looked down at the ground. She was so bad at social situations, it made her want to hide in her dorm room.
Boys... it was hard to talk about when you had no experience but she was scared that anything she said to Diana would end up all over the Slytherin house in rumors. She twisted a little section of hair around her finger and shurgged. "I dont know... I am sure it will happen eventually." She said and let out a soft sigh before looking back to Diana. "So... are you dating someone now?" She asked out of curiosity. Although secretly she knew that she was probably just sleeping with someone and flirting with alot. But since Diana had experience with boys it would give them something to talk about, plus she figured that Diana liked to talk about herself so it would not hurt to ask her questions.
The book was making her nervous. She was going to lock it away in her truck and never look at it again until she got home and could read it safely. So she would stop lying to people. there was one boy that she told about her blood status a few days ago. It had been hard but he told her about his past as well. Both had pasts where they had been abandoned by someone. it was nice to have someone know her biggest secret. Luckily the lie was taken as the truth but she knew in her file it said that she was a halfblood so as long as they stayed in her file she was good. "My dad owns a potions supply shop down off of diagon alley." She explained. It wasnt a well known shop just one of the small hole in the wall stores. "What does your dad do for a living?"

Well, she was surprised (rather pleasantly) when Cassandra said that she would rather not talk about classes. Diana had been quite prepared for a rather long lecture on classes from the girl who she'd sort of assumed was a rather bookish person. She was even more surprised about the fact that she was planning to attend the party. It seemed like the girl was finally growing up a little bit. Diana attributed it to her own skills in bringing out the inner slytherin in Cassandra. Question was - was she going to be competition? (Because all girls were either competition, or not, for Diana as were some guys - she was too interested in herself to ever be fully interested in anyone else for their own sake.) Diana looked at Cassandra carefully for a moment and then decided that no, she was not really going to be competition, not for a while yet.
"Maybe I can introduce you to some cute guys at the party," she said. "Then your eventually can possibly come a little faster." Would Diana gossip about what she'd heard about Cassandra? Well, she did not think anything she'd gotten so far (except maybe the part about the muggle book, was too easy to gossip about - practically the whole house knew that Cassandra's dating history was practically non-existent. If it had been interesting, she'd have heard it by now, no secrets were kept well enough to last in Hogwarts. And if Cassandra' secrets did become interesting, well, who wouldnt enjoy that kind of attention?
"Am I dating someone right now?" she said with a grin. "Well, I'd call it more of a fling, I'm not a big believer in commitment - anyway, do you know Liam? From Ravenclaw? Sixth year?" She grinned, slightly, because she did enjoy talking about herself and especially about the guys who were crushing on her, who were very numerous indeed. "We're meeting tonight." Her smile had widened at this point, it was clear that she was looking forward to meeting and she was. The empty classroom, just the two of them, well, she knew Liam quite well and she was almost certain that it was going to be a pretty tiring night. Not that she minded, of course. "I'm also crushing on this gryffindor guy. But you know how that is, right? Kinda momentary. Have him and then get tired of him sort of thing."
Her father? Well, Diana had a hundred stories for her father's profession, but today she decided to go with one of the tamer ones. She did not think she wanted to do her whole crying act in the courtyard, and plus, she'd done it for Liam just a day ago and she was getting tired of that. "My father is in the ministry of magic, in the department of mysteries. He does some pretty hush-hush work, so we - mom and I and my elder sister - dont see him around that much." All of these characters did not exist either - she was the eldest of her parent's children and she did not even have any touch with them or her parents themselves. "You mentioned your mother died? How?"

She did enjoy classes but she knew it was the last thing that Diana would want to talk about. But Cassandra did secretly enjoy that she was able to use magic so well because of her blood status. It was like a secret slap in the face to all of the purebloods who were failing out of class or who did not pass thier OWLS. But she did practice alot at night when everyone was sound asleep in thier beds.
"Sure that would be nice." She said and smiled. Cassandra probably just opened Pandora's box by allowing Diana to introduce her to boys. It could result in made up rumors, or maybe even true rumors. At that moment she decided it would just be nice to meet people and she wouldnt do anything and let Diana know about it. The boy would be sworn to harsh secretcy. Unlike Diana she did not want to be known as the house slut. Sometimes she heard the guys in Slytherin refere to one of the older girls at the house slut. Depending on who the fling was, sometimes it was Diana, but Cassandra wasnt about to tell her.
Then she mentioned the fling she was having with a Ravenclaw boy. "I might have seen him before. I dont really know the older people from the other houses." She commented. But she made a mental note to find out who he was and see the kinds of boy that Diana was with. "Which Gryffindor boy?" She asked out of curiosity. Oddly she knew more from that house than the other houses. "but I have a question... why not boys from our house? Afterall Slytherin is the strongest house in Hogwarts?"
Next was some information about her dad. She knew of a few kids who had parents that worked in the department of mysteries as undercover people so when Diana said it was hush hush then she just accepted that. "Must be hard to not see him so much." She commented. Cassandra could not image life without her father, he wasnt a rock her in life but he tried so hard to keep her happy. "my mom... yeah she died in childbirth." She explained. It was hard to lie about killing your mom in such a way. But she chanelled that feeling into sounding chocked up about it. "you are so lucky to have your mom and sister." She added

"Awesome," she said perkily. "Its going to be so much fun. Me you and Astrid, along with a bottle of firewhisky and some hot tunes." She grinned. It would be nice to have a girl to hang around with who wasnt Astrid - after all, she made even Diana look bad by comparison. She didnt think she'd have the same problem with Cassandra. In fact, it was more likely to be the reverse. She certainly hoped the girl would not turn up in a slytherin sweat shirt to a part to make them all seem awfully out of fashion - though she didnt think even Cassandra would have such a bad sense of fashion. "What are you planning to wear?" she asked, just out of curiosity. She did have her own outfit ready - it was hot little blue dress she'd bought only last week that would make eyes pop for sure. And she liked to do that a lot.
"If you'd seen him, darling, you wouldnt forget him. He's hot," she said with a grin, referring to Liam. "A bit of a rebel, a rulebreaker..." she trailed off, because just then Cassandra had mentioned the other guy. "Well, his name is Anko. Gryffindor 5th year, cute, blue eyes? I've been crushing on him for all of last week...can you imagine, a whole week? And I still havent been able to get to him." She sighed. "I'm beginning to wonder if he's gay. Though he's close friends with James Rivers...you must know him, the guy who's flirted with every girl in the school...so I dont think so. Or at least I dont hope so." She was not particularly worried about Cassandra talking about any of this - she did not think Liam would care and she personally would love the attention. And it might make Anko a little more aware of her feelings too. Boy, he was frustrating without any doubt.
Her next question almost made her laugh. Slytherins are the most powerful house? Well, sure they were, but Diana didnt give much attention to houses. "Well, I've run out of guys in slytherin," she said with a grin. Not entirely true, but she'd run out of all the eligible ones. "No fun to repeat. Besides, some of the other boys are hot. And because they're all just flings, I can afford to do whatever I like. Its not like I'm going to have children with them and taint by bloodline or whatever." Not that she cared, but Cassandra seemed to, so she put up the facade that she did. Also, she did not plan to have children with anyone, let alone a non-pureblood. What was the fun of having a bawling child? And she did not believe in that kind of long time commitment anyway. Which happy relationship had she ever seen?
Like her parents and their rocky, dependent, abusive relationship. Which was why Diana's smile froze a bit when she was asked about her father. "It is hard not to see him around," she said, though she was lying. At some level she missed her grandfather, but not really. "But of course mom and Lucinda, my sister, are amazing. You have any siblings?" She forced herself to look sympathetic when Cassandra started talking about her parents, and immediately changed the topic. She disliked other people's sob stories more than anything. "So, did your parents attend Hogwarts? Which house were they in?" She was wondering if house depended on family. Was that why quiet, seemingly good Cassandra was in slytherin?

She knew Astrid and had gone out with her once or twice. Astrid actually gave her some of the clothing her mother sent her that she did not like. But of course before they went out the hems became super short. That night was loads of fun so she was actually looking forward to this party. "how can you get your hands on a bottle of fire whiskey?" She asked. Of course she would probably be told that it was a secret, which she was ok with. Then she was asked what she would be wearing to the party. "I am not sure yet. But Astrid gave me a few things that she did not want so I am sure I can find something... and alter it if need be."
The subject of boys was nice because Cassandra got to listen to Diana talk and she was actually learning about this girl and about how one person can just have flings. it made her think about commitment as well. Why would teenagers even commite themselves to each other at such a young age, and were teenagers even capable of love? She assumed that they could have some sort of love for others, but love and lust got mixed up so often. Like Diana was definately in lush with certain boys. "oh yeah I know that kid... Ive seen him around once or twice." She commented before listening to the rest of what Diana had to say. "So you want to go after James River?" She asked. He was the boy that she had been having tea with in Hogsmead one afternoon. Cassandra had been sitting at the table by herself and he joined her because there were no other seats available.
If Diana did go after him then Cassandra would loose in comparison. She was not as attractive as Diana but she hoped that she did not have to compete with Diana for a boys attention. "Well by the time you marry and think about maybe having kids then house doesnt matter but blood line does." She commented. Personally she wanted to be with at least one boy from thier house before she graduated. it would make her feel like she was a true Slytherin.
The whole conversation about parents was no a very comfortable subject for her. She listened when Diana said that it was hard but of course her sister was amazing. "Nope... I am an only child." She said and smiled. it was another lie but how could she explain a sister that she hasnt seen since she was eleven years old. "My father was in Ravenclaw and my mother was homeschooled her entire life." She explained.

Cassandra's question on the firewhisky made her laugh. Diana laughed well when she was actually amused and not trying to be mean - a tinkling, clear laugh. "Oh dear," she said. "You can get anything in this school if you're willing to work for it. Or pay for it. You can bribe someone to send it via owl post disguised as something else, get it sent from home the same way, or even have someone set it up for you at a special spot from where you can conjure it whenever needed. I've done all of the above before, but I like the third the most...and as for the party, well, whoever's organizing it will probably deal with that." She shrugged. "Can't have a proper party without the drinks. Not a slytherin one, anyway." The mention about Astrid's clothes made her grin. "The ones her mom sends her?" she asked. "Those are actually very cute. I would totally wear them. Very not-her, but still cute. As long as you alter them to make them a little more in fashion. Are you good at that sort of thing?" It was somewhat true, she'd wear something similar to them, girly-looks were good on her - as long as she could shorten them from the top and bottom, however. But she wouldnt borrow anything from Astrid. It would feel below her.
"Maybe we can all dress up together?" she said with a grin. "You know, do each other's make-up, make it a girl's night out before the party?" That sounded like fun, especially to Diana who did not hang out with girls all that much - and it would be fun to guide poor Cassandra a little bit. As far as Diana was concerned, she planned to make this party Cassandra's 'coming-out' party. Everyone would know her after it - even if Diana had to pull some outrageous stunt to make sure of that. After all, even your friends' limelight could spill on to you, and Diana liked the limelight, even when it was just reflected on her. She smiled at the thought.
Cassandra's next question made Diana come out of her reverie and pout. "Not James! He's just...he's just James." She did not add that there was no point in getting someone that she could have in a minute. Though as much as James flirted with her, he hadnt made any further moves, which she found strange, to say the least. "I meant Anko. He's adorable. And he seems to dislike all girls, and especially me. Or let me put it this way, especially slytherins. Except a very small amount of girls - like that ravenclaw with blue eyes, I forget her name - how anyone can choose that above me is beyond me, but you never know how people are." Arianne, the name struck her a moment later, the clueless girl from Transfiguration with the rather cheeky friend. Diana was starting to take a dislike to Arianne.
"I dont plan to marry at all. Why not have fun till you can?" she said with a grin. Though she knew if she'd marry she'd choose a hot guy with loads of money without bothering too much about bloodlines. She had a hard enough checklist without one more. Cassandra's next words were about her family, and Diana could sense that for some reason - maybe because she was disturbed about her mother's death - the topic seemed uncomfortable for her. "Ah, a ravenclaw. Interesting." She shrugged, and decided to change the topic again. "So, did the hat say anything to you before it sorted you?" For Diana, it had been so easy that the hat hadn't even had to think. A moment after it touched her it had announced slytherin.

She listened to Diana drescribe all of the ways one could get their hands on firewhiskey. Once or twice while at school Cassandra actually saw people blewing it since it was simple enough. Her dad made a bottle every summer to enjoy when he had dinner parties with his busniess partners. She would watch him make it and it was just a few ingredients and then the time part. If she had the ability to try then should could probably make them a nice bottle. "Well it is easy to brew." She commented. "One could probably do it in thier dorm room with a tea kettle and the right ingredients."
The clothing that Astrid had given her was nice. When altered it looked nice on her. Because she was on the short side the short skirts made her legs look longer, so she was excited that Astrid showed her that when she forced her into one of the short skirts. "Yeah I've been working on it alot. One of the professors showed us how in my first year and ever since then I've been mending and repairing my clothing." She explained. The hem of her skirt had been ripped and she fixed it. It was holding well and looked like a professional had done it. Plus all of the stuff Astrid gave her she made shorter and a bit tighter on her small frame.
She knew of the boy that Diana was talking about. She had met him once and it was clear to see that he did not like Slytherin girls at all. He must have thought that they were all back stabbers and trying to find rich husbands. That was not an entirely wrong belief, but some of the Slytherin girls were different. "But he is hopeing for someone a little more modest... I think guys like it when the girls play hard to get." She said after Diana asked why he would never be interested in her. It was the thing that she could think of. It could just be that he wanted someone without Diana's reputation.
"but if you marry someone rich then you can still have fun. You just need to be more secretive about it." She commented and smiled. Cassandra had dreams of a nice home with a good husband and some kids. Most of her mind was telling her that she should marry a pureblood and clean the muggle parts from her family line. But there was part of her that just did not care, if the man was good then why argue. Then the subject switched over to the sorting hat. "um... I dont really remember. it was confusing and in riddles." She said. Parts of it where vivid in her memory but not all of what the hat said was clear.

"You can brew it? Do you know how? That would be totally useful." Diana was often in situations where she really needed a drink (especially after messy situations where she was upset or angry), but her delivery guy at the Hog's Head or at the 3 Broomsticks (she tended to supply herself from Hogsmeade, it was easier) had forgotten or hadn't been able to sneak her the drink through the school filters. That was the time when she became really irritable and annoyed. Though she would never admit that she had a drinking problem. No, she preferred to attribute it to the fact that she did not like not getting what she wanted. On the other hand, if Cassandra knew how to brew it at short notice then it would be really great, even for parties. "Does it need the use of magic?"
"Wow. They never taught us anything like that. I was in Salem Academy till the 4th year, but perhaps you already knew that." This was a rather major lie, but she didnt want anyone to know she'd been to Durmstrang - what if she ran into someone from her old school and they told on her? (People from Durmstrang shifted to Hogwarts a lot more often than people in Salem.) Of course, it was quite possible they might still tell on her if they saw her and recognized her and perhaps she'd be in more trouble then, but she didnt think anyone would place quiet, mouse-like Daisy Mason in the flamboyant, sexy woman who was Diana Black. And if they did, well, she had other ways to silence them. "Mending clothes would probably be really bourgeois to people at Salem, they're a pretty exclusive school." She shrugged. "Have to admit its a useful talent though. It'd have been nice to learn it properly, though I can handle basic spells on clothes." She stopped, thought back to her last such attempt, and grinned. Even Diana could not be good at everything. "It works superlatively well when I want something burnt, ripped or tattered."
"Like it when girls play hard to get! Girls have to pretty to play hard to get, not mousy and bookish and the kind you'd lose among the library book shelves. You've got to want them and then not be able to have them." She was fuming at this point, especially because Cassandra was implying there was something wrong with her! The thought! She was not particularly bothering to hide it, either. "It has got to be something else," she added shortly. Not getting what she wanted, especially guys, was one of Diana's weaknesses. "But how do you know he likes modest girls? Friends with him?" She wanted to know if there was something else about him (or his girlfriend) that Cassandra knew so she could use it to get him.
She forced herself to think about the next discussion topic. "Ah, but I like the way you think, darlin'," she said with a grin. "Riches and the fun and excitement too." She grinned. Then the conversation turned to the sorting hat. "Oh but of course, you must have been only a kid then. Of course, for me it was much more recent, so I remember it more clearly - not much to tell though, it was pretty straightforward." She was trying to steer back to the topic of her old school, she liked talking about how she'd been the queen bee since year 1 and all her interesting (and fake) exploits, if only Cassandra would bring it up - though if she didnt, Diana probably would in a while.

"i've seen my father do it every winter when i go home, but I've never done it myself. I guess all I would really need would be the exact amounts of everything." She explained. it was sad but she wasnt even allowed to help because of the whole stupid underaged magic rules. It required a few little bits of magic, like to make a fire that intense, which is why she could not do it while he was makeing it. She knew that he did try to brew it as strong as possible bcause it served it at parties and gave it out as christmas presents.
"Salem Academy?" She asked. Of course she did know that there were other magical schools out there, they talked about it in the class about Hogwarts History but she had never met anyone from another school. "whats that like and why did you come here?" She asked since she was curious now. The other schools she knew about was a french school and one up north where everyone always wore fur. It made her curious to see why she left the school and came here. Perhaps Diana would share the reason but she was not sure it would be the real reason. For some reason in her mind she felt like Diana would probably lie about that because it might have been embarassing or she was expelled.
Then she realized that she had upset Diana. "Listen I am sorry. I dont know why he doesnt seem interested in you when you are obviously so pretty. Some men are just stupid." She said trying to save herself. Obviously she did not want Diana mad at her since she wanted to be her friend. "I dont know him but you said he did not like Slytherin women and Slytherin women are the prettiest ones in the school so my guess is that he doesnt like pretty girls." Who knew why that guy did not like Slytherin women. Cassandra had met him once a week days ago and she did not think he was that pretty or someone that diana should be getting upset about.
"And if you marry rich then your husband would just be throwing money at you. So you'll want to find someone that just does nothing but adore you." She added before thinking back to the sorting hat. "yeah well it was like four or five years ago so it does get foggy." She commented and then tried to see if she remembered seeing diana get sorted. If her memory was correct that hat took less than thirty seconds to decide

"Oh well, if you let me know what you need and its easier than ordering maybe you could show us some of your talents? Maybe for the party this weekend?" she said with a grin. "It'll definitely be easier to order whatever it is rather than smuggle in illegal alcohol." She shrugged, thinking of some other things related to the party, she was somewhat involved in the organizing and she thought it might be a lot of fun. "Your father seems like quite a connosieur - can you make anything else? Like vodka?" This last was in memory of a rather confusing guy she'd met recently, who had both not risen up to her insults and not seemed at all attracted to her. Such people were hard for Diana to figure out.
"Salem, yes. Its beautiful, and huge." She'd done some research on the school, so she wouldn't be too wrong, but she tended to mix up her facts with her memories of her actual old school. "Its very cold. And you have to wear jackets all the time. Thats why I always feel hot around here." She shrugged. "I left because dad used to work there, and then my grandmother was ill so we shifted here to take care of her. And then after she died we still stayed here because we didn't want to shift back. All of this happened in my fourth year." This was her regular story for everyone, and it was said with the appropriate sad looks and somewhat detached voice, like she was telling someone else's story - which, as it happened, she was. She should really just write fiction.
Her apology cheered up Diana to some extent, and she flipped back her hair, took another sweet candy, and smiled. "Well, some boys are just fools, really. If they won't have slytherins, they're denying themselves of the best years of their lives." She sighed. Have you got anyone at all that you're crushing on, or whatever? I promise I won't tell." This was one of the most blatant of the lies, she didn't even think Cassandra would believe this one. "How about James Rivers?" Now this was absolutely random, but it seemed like Cassandra knew that guy, so she thought there might be something interesting there - the guy was adorably cute, after all.
"Well, it can't be too hard to find someone to adore me." Except that it was. Diana could not find one person who could satisfy her need for affection for more than a few days - a month at the most - but she suspected this might have more to do with her than with the guys. Would she ever be ready to settle down? "What kind of guy do you think you'd end up marrying? Would your father want to choose?" It was a tradition, at least in the older pureblood families, for the father to help choose, or at least approve, the son-in-law, to make sure that the line stayed good.

She nodded and knew that her services would be called for since their was a coming up party this weekend. "yeah I can get you a list of what I will need and we can brew it in my dorm room. Its not like anyone is going to care if we brew it ourselves." She said. The house boy and girl and the prefects never cared about anything that went on in the Slytherin house. In fact she guessed that they probably brewed it themselves in thier dorm room."I personally cant make vodka but I bet my dad has recipes for it. He probably would not mind sharing it."
Her dad was the ideal parent for most teenagers. He taught his daughter to make firewhiskey and other difficult potions. Often he would tell her to just invite everyone over and bring life back to thier empty house. When she was home she could stay up late and go into London whenever she wanted just as long as she checked in once in a while. SO yeah the fun loving and free parents. She listened to Diana and nodded. "But I thought Salem had warm summers? Isnt it right on the water?" She asked out of curiosity. Obviously she did not go there so she did not know the facts about it. Then she listened to why Diana was at Hogwarts. Cassandra would have been a third year when she came here and she kind of remembered a girl who was much taller than the first years going through the sorting ceremony. "Sorry to hear about your grandmother."
She was happy the apologise calmed her down and she was smiling again. The wrong move and Cassandra could really offend Diana and if she offended her then Cassandra's life would probably be a living hell. Rumors about her would probably be all around the castle and that was the last thing Cassandra needed now that she was starting to date. Of course she was asked if she was crushing on someone and then about James. "Well I was having tea and James just sat down at my table. We talked and it was no big deal." She explained. They had never agreed to start dating so there was nothing to share expect they had tea together.
Now the one thing she was not going to share was the information about the Hufflepuff she had been on a date with and kissed while in the Astronomy tower. That was her secret and they planned to keep seeing each other in secret. However she was kind of keep the possibility of other men open since she was trying this lack of committment thing that Diana did. "Marriage... I dont know what kind of guy I want. But I am sure my dad is looking at an arranged marriage just to explore some options. However I dont know if it is a definate decisionyet." She said. "And is your family doing an arranged marriage as well?"

"That sounds like a lot of fun. So maybe we can dress up before hand, make the drinks, and then head over to the party together. Its true, its not likely that anyone, and especially not our prefects, will bother about us brewing it - as long as the teachers don't come to know." She stopped and then grinned, reflecting on how this whole thing was starting to sound awesome. She'd enjoy learning this, if only for the future when she really needed a drink and there was no other way to do it. "And that sounds cool too. We can ask your dad. He seems like a lot of fun, you know. The kind of parent one would feel lucky to have." Was there a twinge of sadness there, because she knew her father (who had also been fond of drinks, or rather too fond) would not ever share anything similar with her? If there was, Diana did not admit it even to herself. She did not often prefer to think of her father. "Of course, I'd say I'm lucky to have mine too. They're very liberal."
Part of her envied Cassandra for having such wonderful parents, so instead she made up bigger, brighter stories, as if stories could make up for the lack of actually having those things. "Darling, when it gets to minus 20 or 30, even places near the water freeze up. Salem is pretty far up north and a cool western wind blows there and a cold current." Now she was bluffing entirely, she knew a little bit about salem but not enough to know its weather or anything else - how did Cassandra even know this stuff? This was why she did not like people who were too intelligent, they tended to call out her lies, and that made her feel extremely fearful. "Well, never mind the weather. It was extremely expensive, and extremely posh, nothing like Hogwarts where they allow any riff-raff, muggle born or otherwise, in."
She shrugged off the comment about her non-existent grandmother, and then was delighted at the little tit-bit Cassandra had revealed. Of course, James, she knew, flirted with everyone in the school (in some ways he reminded her a little bit of herself) but still, it seemed like Cassandra was trying too hard to seem nonchalant. Though that might have been Diana's imagination, it was too much of an opportunity to pass it up. "Well, thats interesting," she said, leaning in. "Where were you having tea and how did he just come up to you? Did he say anything interesting? Are you guys planning to meet up again?" She was wondering if James was not interested in taking things ahead with any girl or if it was just her. Personally she suspected that he sort of liked that gryffindor - Kadie. Yes. That was her name.
She was not particularly surprised when Cassandra mentioned the arranged marriage. "Well, its been a tradition in my family for people to have arranged marriages with other purebloods, but I'm sure if I find someone suitable myself I wouldn't be refused." She leaned in, as if telling a secret, and lowered her voice. "My sister, Lucinda? She's going out with a halfblood! And he was a hufflepuff to boot! And she's planning to marry him, the poor fool. Once she tells mom and dad that - well, any choice of mine - especially because he will probably be a slytherin and pureblood - will probably seem like an excellent one to them." Diana was good at inventing up crazy dynamics within her seemingly perfect families, though not as great at keeping the stories straight.

"yeah that sounds like lots of fun." She said and smiled. It sounded like a fun girly sleep over that she was not used to. They get ready together, make the drinks, probably taste them, and then wow everyone at the party. If she was seen with Diana it would boost her reputation in Slytherin so fast, so she could see that she was on her way to ruling the school with her friend. Even if it was faked then she did not care since it ment good things for her. "yeah he is pretty liberal and a good guy." She said and smiled. "you'll have to visit sometime since he always brews the firewhiskey better then I could ever." She added. The offer was sort of fake since she figured Diana would enver take it. But if she did then Cassandra lived in a nice house and she would make sure that her father would not talk about about his muggle wife. She nodded when Diana explained her other school in Salem and she thought about it for another moment. She knew that Salem was located lower than they were on the map. Also according to her muggle studies Salem was a place that rarely saw minus 30 in the winter, unless it was particularrly bad. However it was probably smart to not say anything and just let Diana think that she believed her. Personally she had never been there so her muggle teacher could be wrong but she did know about the witches over there. It must have been so awful back during the Salem witch trials. "Did they tell you much about the Salem witch trials?" She asked.
More talk about James now. SAhe never thought it would be that serious with James since he seemed nice but she always hear and saw him and this other gryffindor girl, Kadie, that she studied with. They were just always together but hte flirting gave her some sort of confidence. "oh eyah I was just sitting there and I guess I had the only available chair so he asked to sit down. I was feeling friendly so I let him sit. No we arent planning to meet and he never said anything interesting. It wa sjust casual conversation." She explained. It was nothing exciting but they did talk about how a Gryffindor could date a Slytherin. That was the most exciting thing they spoke about.
She leaned in when Diana began to talk about her sister in almost a secretive way. She gave the expected laugh about her sister dating a hufflepuff. "Well thats just awful for your sister but I do hope you get the Slytherin pureblood you deserve." She commented and smiled. Secretly she did not care about the house he was from since once they were in the real world that did not matter anyways. She thought her grandmother might be trying to arrange a marriage but she was not positive. Most likely she would find out about it next year, if there was one. Honestly she believed her grandmother was since she wanted a pureblood back in the family.

The enthusiastic yes made her smile. Of course, Cassandra was not the kind of person Diana generally made friends with - she was neither rich, nor famous, nor beautiful - and she didn't think she was particularly smart, but she wasn't sure. (Astrid had been rich, famous and beautiful - and more than that, resolutely pureblood.) But Diana was making friends with Cassandra because once in a while it was nice for her to have someone who she considered so far below her as a friend simply because she expected that Cassandra would look up to her and respect her. Plus, it was about time the poor girl learned the ropes of being a true slytherin. The invitation made her smile widen slightly. "I would love to visit! We'll plan that for sure." She did not actually plan to visit (after all, that might involve calling Cassandra back to her house and then she'd have to explain the missing family) but there was no harm in making the girl feel happy. "You're lucky. My parents won't let me touch a drop of alcohol at home. Wouldn't they like to know what I get up to at school." But the way she said it made Cassandra sound like the unlucky person with the irresponsible parents.
The Salem Witch Trials? Hell. All she knew about it was from a fictional novel. Damn, but that girl knew too much. "Oh yes, they were horrific." It sounded convincing. "To kill witches like that! It really destroyed the school for...a long time." She shrugged. "We had one long lesson for it in History of Magic though I must admit that I used to sleep in that class anyway." She had no talent for learning anything, so such classes bored her immensely. "Now give me a wand in my hand and a spell to do - thats what I like. Not sitting around learning dates or potions or whatever." She couldn't do any rote learning for the life of her.
Cassandra's story of James was boring. Did nothing exciting happen to the girl? "Well, I think he has a thing for that Kadie chick anyway," she said, with a roll of her bright blue eyes. "And he does try to chat up to every girl. Besides, he's a gryffindor and I've never been one for house differences but others in the house might hold a grudge." Actually, she might be the one even spreading the rumors (as little as she believed in that sort of nonsense - having come so late to Hogwarts meant that she had never even seen the houses except segregated places to sleep - except that slytherins were the most fun and tried not sleep). But she did so love to gossip. It made her feel important.
She tuted her head. "And he's such an innocent little boy too. No fun to date such people. They don't even kiss you like they mean it. I don't suppose I'd ever go out with someone like that. You shouldn't either." She was rambling on, not paying much attention to her words, continuing her lies and her stories without caring much what Cassandra thought. "Well, I don't know ANYONE suitable yet. I hope my parents or I can find someone worth me." Now that would be an immensely difficult task.
