Ursa Major, Ursa Minor x x Ten loud bell rings could be heard from the Hogwarts' bell tower. The sun was near setting but the night was still plenty warm. After a scorching hot day, the night was just the perfect temperature to convince one Ravenclaw girl to leave her dorm even though curfew was fast approaching and being out too late could get her in trouble.
Isabel, the quiet and barely noticeable one, had ventured out to the lake. During her time at Hogwarts the lake had always been one of her favorite places to go and remained so still. Instead of toting her regular art stuff with her, she instead had merely a towel with her. Underneath her sky blue dress was a modest bathing suit and her deep brunette locks were carefully tied back.
Quietly Bel made her way to the edge of the lake and removed her dress. Carefully she folded her dress and towel over a low branch of a near-by tree. Looking around a moment to make sure she was alone, Bel moved into the cool waters. A contented sigh passed her lips as Bel moved into waist deep water then ducked down to submerge her whole body.
Popping back up from the surface, she laid back and let the water gently cradle her body and keep her afloat. Bel's lips curled into a smile as she looked up to the cloudless sky. A crescent moon and twinkling starts greeted her gaze and almost seemed to smile back at her. ”If only every night could be like this night.” She muttered to herself, her eyes searching the sky for all the constellations that she could think of. ”Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, Lyra, Leo, Bootes, Virgo and Hercules.” She recited as her eyes followed the stars. After a long moment of admiring the heavens, Bel closed her eyes for a while, just enjoying the way the water held her body and all the noises of nature around her.

Kenny was already ready to relax as the long hot day was slowly setting to night and it was almost time for curfew as he was outside the school looking up at the sky seeing how it was always nice to see the day change into night from out of nowhere. The young hufflepuff who was clad in a casual attire of a dark yellow t-shirt and blue jean shorts was about to head back into the school when he suddenly heard a faint noise that was going on, he needed to get back but his curiosity was getting too much for him as he decided to venture into a path that was a bit new to him as he carefully turned around in case there was trouble and he would be ready at all costs.
The path led Kenny to what appeared to be a lake which he learned that many students would go here on possibly dates or to have some fun. However from a distance Kenny had a feeling that no one was here and that he was probably hearing things as he turned around and head back. Suddenly he heard a voice by the lake as he turned around and carefully found a tree to listen at and not be caught as he looked around and noticed a girl was floating on the lake as if she was relaxed as Kenny was shaking nervously fearing that she might noticed him and be quite upset. Kenny then heard the voice of the girl reciting words that seemed a bit unusual.
Kenny was a bit baffled by what the girl was saying as he heard the words Ursa Major and Ursa Minor as well as Leo and Lyra, he wonder why she was saying those words but then Kenny realized that it would be foolish to go and ask her as he decided to just slowly get up and leave as he decided to head back to Hogwarts. As he was about to leave however he accidentally tripped on what appeared to be a thick tree branch as he went flying for a bit and landed on the ground hard as he made a loud noise in pain as he realized that he was now in big trouble as he just stayed there petrified with fear off what will happen next.

It seemed like Bel had been floating there for hours, in perfect peace. She was so relaxed that she could no longer tell where her body ended and the water began. She was part of the water and it a part of her. Perhaps it was this feeling that drew her so deeply to the water. But whatever the reason, the point was that she was very relaxed and fully sure that she was alone. Usually she could somewhat sense where others were around her, but her level of relaxation had pretty much made it to where she couldn't sense anything.
Being in the state that she was, Bel was understandably very startled when a sudden noise came from the forest ever so close to her – and she didn't have her wand within reach. Many things ran through her mind as to what could have made the noise. Despite the Dementor warnings going on, she knew it wasn't one of them which made everything a little bit better.
Quickly she swam to the shore, grabbing her wand from the pocket of her sundress as well as wrapping her towel around her soaked body; if she was going to run into trouble she surely wasn't going to be in just her bathing suit.
With absolute care, Bel walked toward where she thought the sound was coming from. ”Lumos.” She whispered under her breath and her wand produced a bright light. As soon as the light blanketed the ground, Bel found herself just feet from a boy that she remembered seeing in the halls and at class. For a moment she stood there, baffled before it dawned on her that he had fallen and thus caused the noise that had disturbed her earlier.
”Are you alright?” Bel asked softly, moving closer to the boy. She switched her wand from one hand to the other and then offered her free hand to help him up from the ground. ”You're not hurt are you?” Her voice was even softer. Bel was horrible with men and very shy around them no matter how hard she tried not to be.

Kenny had a bad feeling that something bad was about to happen, he had heard warnings from before about Dementors invading which was bad news for the students and staff of Hogwarts and yet he was too scared to even move or turn around if it was to be a dementor that was about to come to him and harm him. Suddenly he noticed bright light on the ground as he realized that he was probably either safe or sorry as he was about to apologize. Just as he was about to say I’m sorry, he heard a voice that sounded female as he heard the voice asked if he was ok and if he was not hurt. Kenny rolled over a bit and noticed that it was the girl that was in the lake that was shining the light and he felt relieved as he took her hand to help him up.
As he slowly got up with no injuries at all Kenny suddenly got a good look and noticed that this girl looked like that she could be in one of her classes as Kenny was blushing a bit by how lovely she looked though he had a feeling she was in an upper year than he was. “Thank you, I’m ok by the way sorry bout that I heard noises and I was only curious to what was going on” he said in a calm tone. Kenny was often a bit shy around talking to girls as he was worried that he would never find the right girl to fall in love with as took a deep breath to stay calm. “I thought that there was a dementor going about and I was so scared that I didn’t want to move.” he added as his tone was getting more calm and normal as he kept a small smile in his face.
Kenny then quickly dusted off a bit before continuing on as he turned around a bit hoping that there wasn’t any dementors at all as he turned his attention back to the girl realizing after all this he forgot to introduce himself. “Forgive me for my manners, I’m Kenny, Kenny Michael Templeson, of course you can call me Kenny. What is your name?” he said keeping his smile intact as he was doing the best he can to keep a conversation going nice and easy.

Bel noticed that the boy she had her hand extended too seemed very frightened and she wondered the exact cause. Why the need to be so scared? She shrugged off her curiosity as she helped pull him to his feet. He seemed unharmed, which pleased her since she was in no mood to be mending cuts or bones. Though she had extraordinary magical talents because of her studying, Bel didn't always enjoy putting her talents to use.
Keeping her wand lit to give them both light, she listened as he explained why he was out here at this time of night and in the process also answered why he had seemed so terrified. Without thinking she said, ”If a dementor was around you would know. The air would be cold and brittle. So cold it would chill you to the bone in mere seconds. You would be able to see your breath and all around you would feel hopeless. That is how you know a dementor is near by.” Immediately after she blushed. Bel always had a habit of babbling about the things she knew and often had been told she was a know-it-all.
”Tis nice to meet you, Kenny. I'm Isabel.” For now her nickname would be her own because she didn't like people calling her Bel when she really didn't know them well. As nice and smooth as she seemed to be, there was a mini panic attack going on inside her. Her cheeks had become darker red and she began to slightly fidget. Damn her nervousness around men. For once she wished she could have an entire conversation with a man without getting nervous.
Bel smiled a little, trying to keep her mind free and clear to keep her nervous habits at a minimum. It wasn't working as well as it could, but at least she was sweating which was a good start. ”You're a Hufflepuff right? I remember seeing you in some of my classes.” Small talk might be a little over rated but at least she wasn't be a closed clam.

Kenny listened on as the girl explained to him about what would happen if a dementor would actually show up as it was hard to remember being that he has never came across one of them at all but would remember what would happen if it did show up. Suddenly Kenny noticed that the girl was starting to blush a bit as he was a bit surprised by this as he had also been blushing a bit as well by how lovely she looked. It seemed that the conversation was going off good without any trouble at all with Kenny as he then listened on as she begin to introduce herself.
“Nice to meet you too Isabel, that is such a pretty name” he said as he was surprised by what he just said has he fallen for her? It couldn’t be since she was an upper year but she seem attractive and he was still a bit shaky though he was doing his best to keep himself from blushing. But as he was trying to keep from looking nervous he then noticed that Isabel was acting a bit more nervous than he was when he saw her. Maybe she was nervous just like him which may explain the blushing and the small fidgeting that she was constantly doing as he realized that maybe it was ok to be nervous at first because this might be the sign of how true love begins.
Kenny was then asked by Isabel if he was a Hufflepuff as she added that she seen him in some classes as Kenny noticed that she had a small smile which made him feel more better as he smiled at her and begin to speak. “Yes, I’m a Hufflepuff, What’s about you?” he asked wondering which house did she represent. “You were saying some words like Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, was everything ok?” he asked as he wanted to ask her what was up the sequence of words she was saying while floating in the water.

In the small spaces between the exchange of words, Bel wondered if she was doing alright. Did he think she was too smart? Too shy? Too nice? Too ugly? Too talkative? Too modest? Too curios? It was mental torture that she couldn't help but put herself through. Regardless of what she may or may not have thought about Kenny or any other man, it was just the torture she always put herself through and likely always would.
Flushed cheeks grew even more so when he complimented her name, which sent her into a whole different loop of thinking. Did he think she was pretty? Was he just being nice so he didn't hurt her feelings? Did he really like her name? Would he have said the same if she told him a different name? Total chaos – but controlled chaos that didn't show on the outside but she did choose not to comment much on his compliment other than a thank you for fear that he might take any other comments wrong and be angry with her.
”I'm a Ravenclaw – seventh year.” She answered, glad that she had been correct about him being in Hufflepuff or it would have made her look completely stupid and might have even been insulting. Then he asked about what she had said while floating in the lake. ”Oh, I was just saying the constellations I was seeing in the sky.” She said, tucking back some of the hair that had decided to be rude and tickle her cheek. ”Where I was floating at had a beautiful view of the sky and I could see all the stars so I decided to test my memory of them.” It came out before she could stop it. Mentally she cursed herself for babbling more than what was needed. Hoping he wouldn't notice her babbling she quickly decided to distract his mind. ”I left my dress back by the lake, and there are smooth rocks to sit on; my legs I fear are starting to dislike this standing.” she hoped he would agree to go with her so that she had an excuse to be back by the water and under the clear sky again. Perhaps the water would relax her more and make this whole thing so much easier.

Kenny was surprised to learn that Isabel was indeed a Seventh year Ravenclaw student which he had a feeling that she did looked like an upper year student after all. He then keep on noticing her fidgeting that she seem to keep doing while talking to him. Kenny then noticed that Isabel’s cheek were now redder than ever which made him wonder a few things if he made her upset or maybe even surprised by what he said. He wanted to make a good conversation when it came to talking to a girl and it was either doing well so far or maybe he was just making her a bit more nervous than he was before.
The Hufflepuff had also learned that the reason Isabel was saying those words that he heard while she was in the water was because she was saying the names of the constellations which made him feel a bit more better. “Really, constellations? They must be really interesting to see at night, never thought that you can see them while at a lake though.” he added being that there were many trees and bushes around the area. He also learned that she was keeping a good memory of them which seemed a bit strange but wondered if she was remembering them for class maybe but he just didn’t feel like asking her about class for now because he thought that maybe it would just make the night just feel a bit boring as he tried to hide his blushing so that he wouldn’t feel embarrassed at all by what he said.
He was now getting more interested and was hoping that he would be allowed to see what the constellations were like when suddenly Isabel spoke again about not like standing too long. Kenny felt like he was crashing the conversation until he heard from Isabel that she was going to sit on some rocks by the lake and was thinking what to do. He felt like this could be a night he will not forget as he took a deep breath and spoke again. “Excuse me Isabel, um would it be ok if I look at the constellations with you please?” he asked hoping that maybe she would hear him and at least make her feel better that there is someone with her to look at the beautiful stars.

Kenny seemed surprised that she could see the constellations from the lake, but then again most people just thought about all the tall trees and never about the fact that the trees couldn't grow in the lake itself. ”Well when you float in the lake you get a very clear view straight up because nothing can grow tall enough to block the view so when you look up you see a ring of tree tops encircling the sky and the stars not blocked glow even brighter because the trees block light from the school.” Bel explained. ”Actually right in the middle of the lake is one of the best places to see the stars from – that's why I come swim out here at night.” She admitted.
When he asked is he could some with her to see the constellations, Bel smiled softly and nodded ”Of course, but if you really want to see all the stars you'll have to get in the water. But I can show you a few from the rocks.” She said as turned and began walking back to the lake, making sure not too walk too far ahead of him lest the light from her wand be too dim for him to see which might cause him to trip again.
Branches cracked beneath her bare feet as she made the short walk to the shore with Kenny. It might have bothered most people to expose their feet to harsh ground but she went out without shoes so often that her feet were well use to rough ground. ”Ah, here we are.” Bel spoke as the branch with her sundress carefully folded on it came into view. Carefully she propped her wand on the tree and then slipped the towel off that she had been wearing over her bathing suit the whole time. She folded it up and put it back on the tree branch by her dress. Taking her wand again, Bel turned back to Kenny. ”So how many constellations do you know?” She asked, starting to feel more comfortable since so far he hadn't shunned her or made excuses to leave. But ever present was the fear that she would do something stupid and lose a possible friend.

It seemed that Kenny was really doing a good job in speaking to a girl as his conversation with Isabel was going off without anything bad happening at all though he still had a bit of redness in his cheeks as a result of speaking to her. When Isabel explained to Kenny about how that the best place to see the stars was by this lake he could not believe it at first, but then she told him that if you do float in the lake you can get a great view without any distractions from the trees at all. As he listened on to Isabel, the young hufflepuff was starting to get have some strange feelings about this girl though he believe that she wouldn’t feel the same way about him being that he looked so shy at all.
After Kenny asked Isabel if he can join her in looking at the stars, he had a feeling she wouldn’t allow it, however she responded to him by saying yes though she also told him that he would have to go in the water if he wants to get a good view. Kenny slowly removed his shoes and had them carried in his hands for now with his wand in his jeans pocket for the time being as he followed Isabel while having to walk on the rough looking ground. Tripping on a thick branch was one thing but as Kenny walked on the ground he can feel the small sticks snap a bit as he had to endure a few sticks feeling a bit sharp while most of them felt dull and wet. After making it through a bit of rough sticks and wet damp dirt Kenny made it to the place where Isabel was at which were some rocks by the lake as Kenny saw where Isabel apparently left her belongings as he found another tree by her tree and placed his shoes there and placed his wand in one of the shoes so that he wouldn’t forget.
When Kenny got a chance to sit down next to Isabel he did noticed that she was in a nice looking bathing suit which made him a bit red in the cheeks though he tried to hide it as he looked up at the stars with her. “This is really a nice place.” he said as he looked at the many stars for some constellations. He was then asked by her if he knew any constellations as he was a bit surprised as he took a breath and begin to speak to her. “Honestly, I never really seen a constellation at night, I read about them but never thought I would see one.” he said keeping his smile in his face so that he would not look like he was down. “I bet seeing one is really as beautiful as they say it is.” he added

Bel waited until both of them were seated on the rock before her wand tip stopped producing light. It took only a few moments for her eyes to adjust to the sudden change in the lighting and become accustom to the darkness. Before taking the time to point out stars she gave a moment longer for his eyes to adjust as well. To hear that he had never seen a constellation was something of a shock to the Ravenclaw. ”Are you serious? Never? Wow you must not get out much at night away from city lights.”
Bel crossed one leg over the other as she sat next to Kenny on the rock. When she was sure his eyes had adjusted to the darkness she extended her arm up and pointed her finger at a group of stars that looked like a measuring cup. ”That there is the Big Dipper, which is part of a larger constellation called Ursa Major.” Her finger moved along the stars of Ursa Major. ”Now look at the two stars that are the front of the cup and follow them north. There, see that little measuring cup like group of stars? That's the Little Dipper and it's part of Ursa Minor. Ursa Minor also features the so-called northern star. While the star actually isn't positioned dead north, it can still help you a bit when you're lost.”
It was an interesting feeling to actually have someone care about what she was saying and not being snide with her because she knew so much. Feeling much more confident about herself, the nervous habits stopped. ”Now follow my finger.” She said as she traced a group of stars in particular order. ”See how it looks sorta like a lion? That's Leo. Sadly from here there's nothing more we can see – the rest can only be seen from the lake.” Her arm dropped and provided support for her body by her hand resting on the rock. ”So what do you think of them? Beautiful aren't they?”

Kenny had knew that Isabel would be surprised by his honesty that he never seen the constellations at night before which was a major habit for Kenny due to his shyness to even go out to even interact with other kids his age. “I know, Well it’s just that, I’m too nervous to even go out and have fun. I want to at least try to interact with people, I just find it too hard to do.” he said as he took a deep breath after explaining hoping he didn’t feel like a weirdo talking about why he never go out much.
Kenny then raised his head as Isabel extended her arm out and with her finger showed him some constellations up in the sky as he was finally getting the chance to see what they look like with his own eyes. Isabel showed him the Big Dipper which were a part of Ursa Major which was a larger constellation as Kenny now realized what Ursa Major was. He then learned about the Ursa Minor which featured a constellation called the Little Dipper which seemed kinda strange that one dipper is large and the other is small but he looked hard and was impressed. Kenny also learned another interesting fact about the Ursa Minor as he was told about the Northern Star which Isabel told him it is actually helpful if he was to be lost and don’t know the way back to a place he was at. “I never thought about that at all, really interesting to know” he added as he was really enjoying this night
As he was learning so much he was told by Isabel to follow her finger as he carefully followed the finger as it pointed to another group of stars which looked like a oddly shaped lion. He was informed that the stars that look like a lion was called Leo and sadly it were the only constellations that they can see for now as Kenny felt a bit sad but enjoyed the show. Isabel then asked the young hufflepuff what he thought of them as he thought of what to say about them. “Well, they are interesting to learn and are really beautiful at night. I never knew that the stars at night would be bright and lovely. This night has really been interesting to say the least I learn something new and I have to thank you for this I bet the stars that can be seen by the lake are really worth seeing.” as he said this to Isabel he felt a bit strange in saying this as he felt his cheeks go red with blushing as he was wondering was something going on as he kept his smile on his face.

Kenny's explanation as to why he had never seen a constellation made perfect sense to her. ”I can't completely understand. I'm really very horrible with people – they find me strange and too unusual and thus are cruel to me so I stay away from almost everyone. Of course my usual attempt at staying away from people failed tonight, but since you're not being cruel to me it's all good.” She smiled, hoping it made him feel better to know that he wasn't the only one who sucked at being around others. In a sense it made her feel better as well – at least she knew she wasn't the only weird one in the school.
Bel listened to him talk about how the night was interesting and his learning was thanks to her, which made her blush brightly but luckily the darkness around them hid the color of her face. ”I hope you don't mind that I know so much. Often people get very angry because they think I'm a willing know-it-all when really I just like to learn. I get curious easily and when I get curious I have to find out what I want to know. On top of that, my studies give me an excuse to be away from everyone and keep people from bugging me.” She paused and blushed even more, ”I'm so sorry, I let my mouth get away with me far too often. Please, forgive me.” Bel half pleaded – having been criticized so many times for babbling.
Feeling her nervousness creep up on her again, Bel moved her leg and let her foot dangle in the water of the lake. The semi-warm water lapped at her skin and somewhat helped to calm her and keep her from her nervous habits. Her deep blue eyes glanced over at Kenny, hoping he wasn't going to get angry with her or think her far too odd to continue to talk too. After so long of being on her own, a little interaction was actually making her happy and she didn't wish to stop.

Kenny was really surprised by what Isabel said to him after he explained why he never really go out and interact much with people. When Isabel told him how she was terrible because how people can be so cruel because they find her strange and unusual it made him really sad. He understand what the feeling was like when he was a kid finding out that he was a wizard and how the young muggles would tease him for being different, he was glad to know he was not alone at all, he was also glad to know that Isabel was glad that he was enjoying this night.
He then noticed that he wasn’t the only one blushing again as he noticed that Isabel was apparently blushing a bit as a result of him thanking her for this night. Kenny then wonder why she seemed to be blushing more than he was as he was a bit worried for her as he stopped and wonder was something going on again. He listened on as Isabel explained how she know so much and how it would make people mad thinking that she was a superior know it all as that felt bad as he wonder how people can be so cruel just because of knowledge. “Well I study to at least do well in school and to make a good impression with the people and it does make me miss out on so many things that looks real interesting. Yet I do wish to do some real fun stuff when I get the chance.” he said as he noticed that Isabel was once again blushing as he was really concerned for her now.
It appeared that Isabel was apologizing to Kenny for saying to much as he felt like she had no right to apologize to him at all as he took a deep breath and begin to speak again at her. “Don’t be sorry at all, there is nothing to be sorry about. You don’t have to worry, your not a horrible person at all, I know your not terrible. You look like an interesting person to meet and such” he said with a calm tone and a sweet smile as he suddenly found his hand to be on her shoulder as he was speaking to her as he suddenly noticed this and moved it away feeling that she would probably be a bit upset though he continued to stare at her blue eyes which seemed to be staring at his eyes.

Now she could be herself – at least for a little while. He didn't seem to have a problem with the fact that she talked a lot or that she knew so much. Her blush went away and her lips curled into a smile. After a couple years of never really having a positive conversation with anyone but a professor had destroyed her self confidence, but it was somewhat coming back with Kenny's help. Bel almost thought to thank him for it, but stopped herself because she knew that would, in fact, sound odd.
Unfortunately, small talk was also running to an end and she didn't want to ask any of the usual boring questions because she hated boring questions. The Ravenclaw bit her lower lip lightly, moved her gaze from his and looked at the lake before them. The waves lapped in to the shore and made a beautiful noise of advancing and retreating water. She desperately wanted to go swimming again since that was the entire reason she had come out here, but she didn't want Kenny to go either or make him feel like he must leave. She juggled the two options in her mind for a second or two because she decided to ask ”So are you any good at swimming?” in her most casual voice so as not to hint to what her actual desire was. With any luck he would be.
While waiting for an answer, her splashed a little water with the foot that was extended into the lake. The feel of water running through her toes made her smile all over again. Her eyes moved back to Kenny. Perhaps he would join her for a swim – and maybe she could show him more constellations or just enjoy swimming. Either way it went, Bel just knew she wanted to be back in the water where she belonged. Above almost all else, save for art, swimming was her favorite thing and the water felt like her home.
